Hacking how to fix ANY problem on the ds firecard

here is a list of problems and solutions for the ds firecard. If you come accross a problem that isn't listed please let me know in the comments section.

This is the most common problem with the firecard.

Problem: When I try to load the menu, it has an xmenu.dat error.

Solution: get the latest firmware from here: http://www.dsfirelink.com/DFCN/index-2.html
go to the bottom of the page and click the 1.45 link. it should bring up a download page. Save the .rar archive then extract ALL of the files to your firecard. run udisk_eng_1_45.nds Click the a button to update your card. Then your firecard should work when you reboot it.


Problem: When I try to load the menu, it gives me an error that says, "data not align"

Solution: When you first click the firecard icon on the ds menu, immediatly hold start and select. it will bring up a menu that says either quick format, full format, or cancel. Click full format. (be carefull though, it will erase all of the data on your firecard so make a backup on your computer.) The full format should take about an hour and a half. Then repeat the solution for the xmenu.dat error.


Problem: When I updated my card using something other than the firmware from the official firecard website (www.dsfirelink.com) it says error: not format.

Solution: When you first click on the ds firecard button on the ds menu, hold a,b.x.y,L,R,and up on the d-pad simultaneously. It will then either give you the option to quick format it or it will automatically format it. Then repeat the xmenu.dat error solution.


Problem: When I try to load a game, it says "file write error"

Solution: Go to usb mode and delete lastsave.sdb in the DSYSTEM (or DSSYSTEM) it will erase all of your save data though.... but it should fix it.

So I followed your instructions. I uploaded all the files from the .rar
But when I go into my F card > MENU I just get white screens and nothing. There is no way to load the update file Fire_eng_1_45.nds

I don't have the DSYSTEM folder on my ds anymore. Some guides have said I should download this and upload it to the ds, I've tried that, it didn't help.
I've spent about 5 hours today trying to fix this :/

not sure what to tell you... it didn't do that for me. search around though. i'm pretty sure you'll find a way to fix it. when you do plz tell me so I can add it to my list of problems.

So I followed your instructions. I uploaded all the files from the .rar

did you ever find a fix for this mate because i have 3 here and iv done that much messing with them the 3 is doing the same as yours..iv spent hours seacrhing but had no one else seems to have this problem.

After much forum trawling I worked it out

the DS Fire card will not work with a Mac. If you upload to your card from a Mac, it causes this problem.

I ended up putting my files on a usb drive, then to a pc, then onto the firecard - it worked.

Hi I agree about it being a peice of junk. But I am not loading from mac. i am loading from a PC and still get this problem, no matter what i do, Burga, could you send me the xmenu you are using please

OK this is now a mission, i have just succesfully de-bricked my psp so now i want to get this cart to work, Thanks to Burga for all the files but unfortunatly they never helped. am i doing something wrong, is there any special button to hold or something stupid to boot the disk.

I have put xmenu on the disk when its inserted i get the error i can only quick format as full format has dissapeared i have done everything i have been told both on xp and vista so i am at my wits end.

Is it posible that the card is not able to be read some how even though i can see it in windows and it comes up as
DS Fireline on the startup screen


Please someone there must be someone who has had the exact same problem that did something to overcome it

Firstly, hold down the start and select buttons on the ds, keep them held down and turn the ds on, you will get a black screen with white writing on, choose full format if available if not quick format will do. This will then format the firecard.

Now connect to the computer via the usb lead.

Next you need to add all the software required. This is found here:http://www.dslinker.cn/soft/

Download the DSLinker XMENU 2.55 file, you will have to unzip the file and send it to your firecard, then you need the DSLinker Firmware 1.45 and XMENU 2.53, Please note, because you have just downloaded the newer version of the Xmenu you will not need to use the version that comes with this file, you only need to extract the file udisk_eng_1_45... which is located in main folder that you just downloaded.

Once you have added these two files, add the games you wish to put on the firecard, switch it off, unplug from pc, turn it back on and there you have it. Sorted.

Guys,i got a problem,i hope you can help me(If there is a solution for it)
I bought my DSL at the end of last August.My friend gave me his old NCard and i used both of them without any problems for months.Last night,i was playing Winning Eleven 2007,i wanted to play another game and hard reset the DS.But fine the system reboots,i entered Fireline and after writing "Loading Menu",just a blank white screen appeared and it frozen.I tried to work it again and again but it didn't work.After it,i connected my DS with NCard inside it and copied my all save files inside it,i can look inside my card with any problem but can not skip white screen when i wanna play?What is the problem?Please help me about this
PS:I had this white screen problem 6-7 times in 6 months but system worked fine every time after single hard reset

Bootcamp maybe? or set up a virtual pc on your mac so you can use that to flash it

That being said, why would anyone buy a DS Firecard these days? I wasn't even aware of its existence before I read this thread - I do believe it was greatly overshadowed by the R4.

They did say they bought it a while ago so maybe when it was "hot" they bought it but it fell outta use till recently

I suppose you're right, I just can't recall a time when it was... hot... at all.

In any case, I don't know the answer so I'll stop spamming now - not familiar with that cart at all.

TBH nor am I but I gave some general advice I have used (even if it was on windows) to combat compatibility issues, like when I wanted to try to get a Palm Z22 to Sync on my Win 7 64Bit laptop ended up using VMWare Player with XP to get it done hehe
