Hi, I recently used someones advice to..(Don't blame me, I suck at electronics) Dip the sholder buttons in alcohol and press them alot...After I turned it back on, the Spotpass LED was yellow, the bottom screen was dark, the top screen was EXTREMELY washed out, and the 3D LED looked like it was struggling to turn on...

I put it in some rice for a couple days, now the 3D LED and the Spotpass LED seem ok, but the top screen is still bright, and looks like it has SHADOWS in the shape of drops in the back... Is there any way to fix this WITHOUT sending it in/ buying a new screen/Opening it up at all...I am currently leaving that half ALONE in rice (Still connected, just open to where only that half is the half in rice), will the rice work, is there anything else that will work?

Just to be clear, alcohaul = alcohol? :0
Something similar happened to my cellphone, but I dropped mine in water, the screen had those annoying water droplets.
I had to put it out in the sun for a good 5 hours.
Alcohol is volatile, it should take lesser time in your case.

Yeah, considering it still works, I would venture a guess and say just give it some time in the sun or something of the like to dry and it should be fine.

Ok, does it have to be in direct sunlight? Or can it just be some basic light, and does it have to touch the screen directly? Other than that, THANK YOU! (My parents would KILL me if they saw my 3DS was broken, and my birthday is coming up, so I wanted a DELUXE WII U (Pikmin 3), so I kinda needed to make sure they wouldn't get me anything else...) This was kinda like a nightmare, so other than those questions...Thank you!

I can't really help you with your problem, but if someone told me to dip my 3DS in alcohol, I'd Google it first and see if it's a good idea.
I kinda derped there... Normally I do it...But I think I went a little crazy there... (It WAS advice to fix the shoulder buttons, and the blowing trick only works temporarily)

I'm not going to microwave my 3DS... I may be derpy with technology, but I would not microwave a 3DS!

As long as it's a source of heat, it should be fine. (Nothing too severe like a stove, but not too weak either, sunlight is perfect for this)
You should keep the 3DS open (NOT On. Open) so that the vapours escape via the speakers.
And yes, the sunlight should strike the effected area directly, it'll speed up the process.

Thank you! You seem to be the only one which had useful advice...
I am now going to take it out of the rice, and let it sit in the sun for a while...

Who else is there to blame
You don't do stuff you can't sanity check only based on some random idiots advice
(no, the advice of many idiots/trolls doesn't count either)

that drop shapes are the remnants of dried alc drops
even if the alc was initially pure it picks up all kinds of stuff inside the 3ds
then it got inside the screen and dried there leaving whatever it picked up as these drop shapes

I think you'r better off not doing anything to it
(or any electronics for that matter)
send it in or buy a new one

even if you had some clue I doubt you could repair it
certainly not without opening it up first

BTW: If you plan on growing these /b/ crystals:
Don't (or at least make sure no one else is around)

I heard ppl do that to theri cats.... you'd better retract your statement.

Microwaves + stupidity = fail.

Use them for food only !
Or those pellet filled neckwarmers, those rule. My brother made a snake shaped one, great for when you get home a cold winter day.

That's a suggestion even more stupid than dipping it in alcohol.

Why did you do it in the first place?
You have no sense of humor

OnTopic

The advice you used is correct but you forgot something. The Alcohol has to be boiling.

Knowing how mindbogglingly stupid some of the comments on this site can be I have a hard time differentiating jokes and serious comments unless I already know the member.

What was the problem with his 3DS in the first place, non working shoulder buttons?
And what would boiling alcohol even do? Dipping it in there would have caused just as much damage if not more because of the vapors now getting inside the actual screen more easily
