Mayor said 40-80 houses have been flattened.

A massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in the small Texas town of West left at least two people dead, leveled several homes and prompted a widescale evacuation in the community of 2,600 people.

"It was a like a nuclear bomb went off," Mayor Tommy Muska said. "Big old mushroom cloud. There are a lot of people that got hurt. There are a lot of people that will not be here tomorrow."

Fire officials fear that the number of casualties could rise as high as 60 to 70 dead, said Dr. George Smith, the emergency management system director of the city.

Saw this on the news this morning, it's so horrible to hear, especially after what happened in Boston already this week. Thoughts go out to all those affected by the events of this week.

Waco sounds exactly like the place where something would blow up. We aren't talking about the ACME Fertilizer Plant by chance?

Between the Boston bombing, attempted poisoning of Obama, and this, it's fair to say we've had a shitty week.
Don't forget the indisputable proof of the US government using torture to...

Hey...wait. Poisoning Obama? I thought that poison letters was aimed at one of the governors? Did I read the wrong sources, or are things even more tragic than they already were? :(

In any case...you've all got my sympathies, guys. This sort of news is always tough...

What? How does it suck balls?

A ton of shit is really antiquated (roads, bridges, the power grid) and improperly maintained because funds that are collected whether through taxes or what not are funneled into other stupid shit and not used for what they were meant for.

Not to mention that a shit load of towns/cities have historical districts that hinder upgrading or maintaining of buildings properly.

Is it just me where I live but has security really got crazy this week after this. Where I am out in Queens, NY there are cops in random roads mostly next to public places such as schools, postal offices, etc just standing on the middle of the road with cameras. Such a shitty week, RIP to all the ones who died.

That explosion was so massive, it measured 2.1 on the Richter Scale. All I know is it looked like a massive bomb going off in the videos I have seen. That explosion was about 10 times more powerful then any bomb ever made from what I have seen. Nuclear bombs have more effect in terms of destruction, but no bomb has that kind of sheer power in shaking the earth.

This is really sad, to hear. I saw this on CablePulse24 this morning. The Boston explosion, Fertilizer plant explosion, what's going on in America? Although, I hope we Muslims don't get blamed for this.

Sad, I wonder if Governor Rick Perry has said anything about this.

Edit: Never mind he thanked President Obama for his call, and is asking for federal relief for the county.

They did say after the explosions in Boston, security in Washington and New York has been amped up.

The 20th anniversary of the Branch Davidian fire is tomorrow. That happened in Waco too.

For those of you too young to remember, the FBI raided a group of cultists in Waco and accidentally set fire to the building. 70ish people were burned to death.
