I haven't received it yet, but I ordered an R4i gold 3ds card and I'm wondering if I can play GBA games on it (On my 3ds)

It says it's compatible with 3ds (insert latest version here) so I'm sure it'll work and be able to play DS software but I want it to play gba (Only the Gold r4i can I think, that's what I ordered)

I heard of GBA ExpLoader but it says something with slot 2 (does that mean dumping?), anyway does GBA ExpLoader work with the 3ds and allow it to play gba?
thanks

As far as I know the only card that can play gba games (effectively, at least) is the SCDStwo. You can always try ichifly's gba emulator for "lesser" flash cards, but I haven't heard much good news as far as compatibility goes, expect lots of lag and spotty audio. In other words, you should have have bought scdstwo... you done goofed, sir.

Unfortunately the only ones that work with the current 3ds are the R4i 3ds cards and the R4i gold 3ds cards :c

GBA ExpLoader is a GBA backup loader for the nds r4 cards apparently but I don't see it that way
Oh well, at least I can play NES and NDS on it :)

Whoever voted No is a moron... There's a GBA emulator (gbaemu4DS) that already plays fairly well.
The better phrasing should be "Kinda" because it's pretty good, but not as good as the DSTwo's GBA emulation.

So you can kinda emulate games using this

GBA ExpLoader is used to the DSLite and needs a slot-2 card to work.

It's decent, but if you want better, I suggest checking out the DSTwo

The DS Lite can play GBA games directly from carts, there's no need for an emulator unless you're on a DSi or newer.

It would need a slot-2 to work. Otherwise yes you need an emulator.

no when we refer to playing gba we mean perfect or damn near perfect and the ds gba emu isn't even close by a long shot.

Wow, this got pretty popular..... so I guess the gbaemu4DS emulator is pretty good? :D
Few questions:
*Does it have sound support?
*Will it play advanced kinda games (like doom and doom 2?)
I'm getting excited! :D also where did 'Who Cares!!' come from on the poll? I never added that!

you can play GBA games with r4i gold 3ds , but now on 3DS,just on NDS/DSLITE ,for 3DS dont have slot-2 to insert EZFlash 3 in 1,which is an essential item,if you want play gba games with r4i card. Otherwise, you can choose dstwo or iSmart MM, they builds in GBA Emulator.

I tried to test gbaemu4DS, but it doesn't work. not sure whether it's the operation mistake.
so DSTWO might be the only card for GBA Emulator on DSi/3DS.
if wanna play GBA games on R4i gold 3ds, you need a DSL and a EZ-flash 3 in 1.

I actually own 2 regular ds's (not lite) I can play gba on that when it decides to work but the gray one is having problems and the blue one has trouble reading games (Cleaning doesn't help) rarely it works as I said
I use the 3ds now for playing games portable-ly

yeah, so DSTWO is the option if you wanna play GBA games.
However, the R4i gold 3ds might release a GBA emulator in the future. : ) hope not a long wait.
