Gaming Netflix 3D content coming or not?

I was seeing Netflix currently has 3D content available on PS3 (and some LG televisions).

Anyone know if it is pretty simple to support this on the 3DS glasses free 3D in the future (more devices are supposed to be supported in the future)? Is doing so difficult to the point that it likely will not happen?

3DS is a pretty successfull console and I would think it could be mutually beneficial if Netflix could get 3D to work on the 3DS.

By the way, is there any methods to get 3D movies/shows on your console (besides Nintendo Video and eshop videos)?

Probably not, it would have had support by now, and there are ways to watch 3D videos on the 3DS but are limited to ten minutes I believe,

You can convert videos to the 3DS format using the converter posted here someplace, I'm too lazy to search right now. They have to be under 10 mins though. It works fine for youtube videos. IIRC, somebody did a whole movie in 10 min chunks.

As for Netflix, who knows.

Yep, I'd imagine it is pretty simple to support it, Nintendo is just dragging ass. Just look at the 3D videos on Nintendo Video if you need an example.

There are video converters to put videos on your 3DS for playback in 3D but that's about it.

This is the number one reason why I want the 3DS to get hacked. I bought a 3DS on day one with high hopes of 3D movies. You CAN convert movies onto the video format, but there is a caveat; a 20 frame per second limit. This is imposed because it is the limit of the video camera. I need a homebrew video player.

It says that because it can convert 2D or 3D videos from YT, but it doesn't change 2D to 3D.

Except Nintendo isn't the one making the Netflix app. Netflix is.

In other words, one relies more on hardware, and one software. Netflix really isn't that much of a software company, so whatever makes it easier for them hardware-wise is what gets the newfangled 3D videos first.

Once you have 3D content that requires glasses you can convert it to the other one easily.

The new way they do 3D is very similar to how Stereoscopic 3D works, in fact I think that the new method lead them to making Stereoscopic 3D. I honestly doubt it would be hard at all to simply update the Netflix app to stream 3D content since it could just emulate (not the right word, who gives a shit) the tradition method.

But of course its honestly not something really worth waiting for, the question is less of how much "good" 3D content there is and more of how much "good" content is on Netflix.

There's absolutely no need to need to convert anything, stereoscopic 3D works by having a way to display two separate images for each eye, one image shot from a slight left angle and another shot from a slight right angle just like how you see two slightly different things with each eye in real life.

That's all there is too it, the 3DS uses a parallax barrier on top of the screen to split up the left and right eye images while a 3D TV has glasses that uses alternating flickering to accomplish the separation. Only thing all 3D devices will need from a video file is that it's split up into two separate images.

The claim that the 3DS uses software and other devices hardware is just wrong, every 3D display has it's hardware solution, but every 3D display uses the same software methods to accomplish the left and right eye image separation in video. In cinema 3D is accomplished by using two projectors projecting two differently polarized lights (L and R images) that then gets canceled respectively for each eye with the use of differently angled polarization filters in the glasses.

Watch the 30 sec mark or so to see how most 3D TV's work.

Cool, I hope it is coming to 3DS then. I just found I can get Netflix Super HD on my Wii U and hopefully 3D soon as well. These services just launched this year and one of Netflix strengths is their vast device support. When it came to iphone they got it out to Android as well with in a year so hopefully they can get these services running on Nintendo consoles with in the year.

True there is not much 3D content on Netflix at all right now but that is actually true of 3D content in general. I have had a 3D TV for almost 2 years and still don't see 3D movies in stores (don't even have a 3D bluray player yet) and only had some crappy Video On Demand from my cable provider, rented Pirahna 3D from my cable provider, and played some crisis 2 in 3D on my 360. 3D Netflix on 3DS would increase it's scope by a bunch.
