So here i am minding my own business in D. Island trying to capture the qurupeco and its going well, doing plenty of damage to him and getting ever closer to that limping stage to capture him. Then as a last gasp tactic he uses the "roar" move which summons a bunch of generic enemies. Sure no problem, i can deal with the raptors he summons, However this time it seems to have a summoned a HUGE brown dragon that iv never seen before. So here i am trying to dodge a big ass brown dragon trying to charge at me but i manage to get the chicken to limp and he proceeds to a diff area, thank god!

No. The brown dragon follows us also but he stays fairly far away giving me an chance to lay the trap without him charging me.... However, his fireballs didnt get the memo and proceed to burn and make me run out of health and i fainted. Damn you brown dragon!!

best and try to stop the roar, if you can as the roar CAN call other "boss type " monster
i think Rathian was call and destroy you

you will have to face her at some point

also you will be fighting multi boss monsters in many quests latter on

Yeah i know and its not that im worried about fighting 2 "boss" monsters at once, id be fine with that, its just for that paticular quest i had to capture him and its pretty hard to do that when you have 2 monsters targeting you and im using the long sword so i couldnt block. Also that brown dragon guy (i think you are right with rathian) keeps showing up in other more anoying quests to troll me lol like the quest to carry the 2 wyvern eggs back. He Follows me to each zone and those carry quests are already anoying enough as it is with the cats/raptors.

Its kinda scary coz everytime i go from where the eggs are past the cat area i hear this "flapping wing" noise and then the dramatic music playing and there i am hoping to god he doesnt land before i get out of the area lol. Luckily enough i did that quest first time and i only dropped 1 egg (coz i was testing if you could drop down into the water from the ledge with the egg) so it wasnt a big deal but yeah there was a little panic everytime i heard the boss music play.

Loving the game so far and even tho i already own tri, im finding it so much more fun to be able to play this on the go with my 3DS.

You have to admit that the "run for you life!" boss fleeing is hilarious! It has become very unique to the game. Oh precious memories of running away from "A wild random boss appeared!" :3

this game got easier than tri on low rank. the subspecies feel like I'm playing tri though. that's where the fun comes in.
offline I have all low rank quests completed. never fainted once. completed it all with the default armor and was just hording materials.
Just getting started on offline high rank, but I decided to move to online.
I'm hr3 so far, just completed the urgent to get to hr3, which is hunt a rathian and rathalos. When in the online guild, the monsters have more health and are overall a bit tougher. I decided to solo it since I was tired of waiting for someone to join me, and came out victorious in 10 minutes. I even managed to trap both dragons with the same shock trap. it was pretty cool to see them both stunned by it next to each other, I didn't know who to attack lol.
started building armors, maining a maxed out lagiacrus armor as I'm mainly a great sword user, but I dabble with long swords at times. that armor is good for both styles though. also built great jaggi armor, but I used it for like 2 quests. I stick to lagia for now. as far as weapons right now I just have a ravager blade, thunderclap, flame sword, wyvern blade fire, and the default weapons. they work for me but right now I'm working towards having blades of different elements so I can be more prepared for certain monsters; however fire and thunder are good main elements to have as they are pretty good overall for most everyone.
I guess now I'm focusing on high rank armor gears as well, but I'm not sure what I want. I really like lagiacrus for tenderizer, and fast charge skills. I can do level 3 great sword charges like no tomorrow.
I helped someone hunt brachydios last night. it was fun. he's pretty fun to hunt and it's nice to see a new monster to learn.

as far as secrets go, if you want to use the farm quickly (like make the days go by faster), pick the one star quest in moga woods that requires you to deliver 2 kelbi horns. Bring 2 kelbi horns with you, start the quest and deliver them right away. You will always get 2 kelbi horns as a reward, on top of other stuff. the 2 kelbi horns will always be there. Take the horns, send everything else to your box. Rinse repeat till you are done farming. this is a good way to make okay money fast. takes like 30 seconds to complete the quest.

Swimming monsters, always fish them out with a frog! It damages them, and gives you an advantage by fighting on land at the start. Gobul for example I always fish him up. he can be fished at 4, and the frog can be found in 2 right next to the exit that takes you to 4. there's a grass patch there that you can always harvest worms and frogs. pretty convenient if you ask me.

Duramboros, this giant cow has 2 broken tail phases. Smash the living crap out of his "knob" at the end of the tail, once it's broken let him do one of his crazy tail spin attacks where he spins around then flies in the air. As he lands he will be chilling there for a bit, immediately run to the end of his tail which can now be mined once for extra parts. the tail after that can be cut off. other parts you can break from him are his horns and his humps.

thunderbugs for shock traps can now be farmed in the farm. couldn't do that in tri.

barroth has weird elemental properties. When he's covered in mud, he's weak to shock (or water but i'm pretty sure it's shock I can't remember), but when his mud has been hacked off, he becomes weak to fire. same goes for his snow version subspecies

in high rank, always eat for felyne explorer if you can. Each map has a secret area. you can only access that from having felyne explorer or if you get warped to it at the beginning of a high rank quest. These secret areas are a small area, have a mining spot, a bug gathering spot and a harvesting spot they will always give you rarer stuff and sometimes even really really rare stuff.

hunting multiple monsters but don't want them both in the same map? ever wonder what dung bombs are for? throw one at inferior species on the map and there is a god chance they will fly away. It always has to be the specie inferior to the other specie. For example rathian and rathalos. don't throw it at rathalos or he will just stay. Throw it at rathian and she will most likely leave. If you want to be 100% successful that's what the dungmaster skill is for.

these aren't really secrets just strategies I suppose. there's plenty more to talk about in terms of monster behavior and ways to be efficient.
anyone who has online come hunt with me!

P.S. yes that brown dragon guy is rathian

Ok im really learning the benefits of having a multi-weapon system and not just sticking with one weapon. My main weapon has been the long sword for pretty much the entire game so far but for that blind cave monster that clings to the wall/cieling there was no way in hell i was beating him with the long sword so i switched to the bow and upgraded it and altho it took longer to beat him, it was a peice of cake.

Same goes for the gunlance which is slow and pretty awful for fighting raptor style enemies such as baggi/jaggi but it is a GOD SEND for underwater enemies like lagiacrus and made fighting Duramboros a breeze. However, iv still not discovered the best method for killing big dragon/flying type enemies. So far iv been killing them with the long sword/great sword but neither of those is paticularly easy. I guess more practise is needed.

My main weapons so far are: Long sword > Gunlance > Bow > Great sword > Duel blades. Dont use any of the other weapons yet.

I am the only one who doesn't like this game o_o (gamerz, pffft)
I've played the demo and it is damn boring.
But a question, what is the tiny green sword in the HUB?

The game isnt for everyone but i love it, customizing my gear and weapons and trying to work out attack patterns of monsters and then hitting them with a brutal attack is oh so satisfying. Also the enemies in the demo arnt overly interesting in fairness, you need to fight some of the more visually impressive enemies. Try watching gameplay of Duramboros untill he does his "spin" attack xD

The green sword icon is how sharp your weapon is. Its usually like Blue> Green> Yellow> Orange> Red. The more you attack/block with certain weapons they lose their sharpness and you have to sharpen them to make sure you get the max damage your weapon is capable of.

X is one attack, A is another, Combinations of both can do different things with different weapons like X-X-A. Also you have R trigger which is block for some weapons but for others it has special attacks such as the long sword unleashing a nice combo when the bar is high enough. Most of the weapons have a X+A at the same time attack which for the gunlance is a BIG shot which almost always stuns most enemies.

Wow, I'll try that out.
This game needs a tut, even for the demo which I'm playing.

This game is great, trust me. I bought it used(Wii/tri) and only played a little bit because it really turned me away that I did not know about how the upgrade and materials system worked, also what to do after you complete the main quest at the beginning to do other quests. After a while I just stop playing because it bored me or I was simply just stumped because I did not know what to do, but I decided to pick it up again and wow, I became addicted to playing it on the Wii because I are later understand how this game is worked! And like you said, it does need a tut, since you have no idea what to do or how play it. Afterwards you will see the beauty of this game :-)

But once you get past the learning curve it's a really interesting game to play. After I read a online faqs and wikis I instantly got hooked.

Can someone explain THIS for me?

Seriously what the hell? So you can use the Wii-u as a middle man to play the 3DS version of monster hunter online but you cant directly connect online with the 3DS? Who's stupid ass idea was that?! This is just a cheap way to make people buy a Wii-u, Im sure if they can allow something like that to work it wouldnt be a stretch to just put a patch out that lets the 3DS connect straight online and join people. UGH

have you hear of xlink kai or ad-hoc party on the ps3

it is kinda like that but just for Monster hunter 3u on the 3ds

it will the 3ds connect to the wiiU using wifi and the wii U uses a WIRED Connected (so you MUST and a LAN adaptor) to connect to the internet

so you can go online with the 3ds version

the good thing is monster Hunter 4 (it is a 3ds games) HAS online play (lets hope it dose come out in other regions)
