Homebrew Poll: How many of you use emulators?

Do you emulate games on your DS?

I don't know if your definition of emulation is entirely correct ...Seems a bit restricted to me. (Hardware emulation is not a myth :p)
But is a valid point for sure.
Generally when the hardware isn't being emulated it's virtualization (such as the PS1 on PSP stuff), or API translation (see WINE).

Both are way faster than having to emulate the CPU and such.

Last time I used NDSSNES or whatever its called the only thing I remember being able to do with it save state, frameskipping and audio frequency change apart from that nothing, not to mention that the picture quality was pretty poor and there was no way to fix that.

If you've only used the original NDSSFC you should definitely check out the latest and soon to be updated version of CATSFC. Input lag is gone, frame rate has skyrocketed, anti-aliasing on scaling (much better looking video) and several other video options have been added, better auto and manual frame skipping has been implemented, compatibility, UI and a bunch of other little things have been improved too.

Mate, I was just sharing my experience I had with emulation on the DS and I don't really plan on going back to it since I have a better time using my PSP and smartphone to play these games. I left the DS scene 2 years ago with the only 2 games I play now are Devil Survivor 1 and 2.

I think virtualization is more of when you share the hardware between a Host and a Guest, in this way literally creating a virtual machine which the guest can use. I think it's the PSP case, since I remember you can access the PSP menu while playing PSX games and stuff.

But machines like the DS seem to enter a state where they behave just like a gba and lose access to their DS function, so there is no virtual machine and no hardware sharing. I think it's kind of when x86 processors went from protected mode to real mode. I don't think we could say there's virtualization nor emulation in this case. The hardware is just compatible with the older console's binaries, it runs the code natively.

On my DS, I've only ever emulated gameboy. Played some Wario Land 3 and Pokemon Crystal on that, I believe. Things like Jenesis and some others were just a little too unsmooth for me. I have a bunch of emulators on my PC, but it never really feels right. If I'm ever in the mood for some, say, emulated SNES, that's a job for my Wii U.

I used to play a lot of Genesis on my PSP, though. That always worked really well.

That's the case with the stock GBA mode, but that's not what GBAemu4DS does.

After all, if it went into the stock GBA mode it'd shut off slot-1.

I use NesDS frequently because I like the rewind/ffwd functions. I've used my AK2i/ez3in1 combo for GBA games, but I prefer emulating those roms on my Dingoo A320.

I don't play on my DS any longer, only 3DS for me. I didn't buy a flashcart which works with 3DS.
But when I playewd on DS I used to use emulators every now and then.

Hey guys, just wanted to know what games you guys play on the NES emulator.
NES DS is the only way I was ever able to finish the actual game of Super Mario Frustration. I went ahead and made an IPS patch file for the file. Apply this patch file to your Super Mario Brothers NES file (I recommend Lunar IPS to do this) to turn it into this super-hard game. You'll have to hold A as you press Start initially or else you'll start off in Minus World.

Cool, i will do when i get my flash card in the mail. (I must buy SMB tho.)

I'm all about using original hardware. The only time I emulate is when I know I will never be able to play that game in English or actual hardware.

I mainly play GB/GBC games on my DS. I've Flight of the Amazon Queen in ScummVM as well, but that was a while ago.

I mostly play the Harvest Moon games for Gameboy.

For us really old, old school, there is only one word : ZXDS.
Perfect screen resolution ( that it happend to be a perfect 1:1 at 256x192), virtual keyboard on the touch screen, and with more features and compatibility then any other Spectrum emulator for ANY handheld system or smart phone anywhere.

There are just too many reasons why this emulator is the best of the best, I just can't list them all here.
Let's just say that if everything else fails, ZXDS will keep my DSiXL alive for many, many more years to come ;)
