Hardware 3DS Xl better than 3DS?

Errrr, wrong, the original 3DS has 1:1 pixel mode too, it's just that it looks really small on those screens.

No it doesn't, the people who wrote that article just didn't know about it so they thought it was new.

And as someone has who owned, and still has access to both, they definitely do not look the same. While DS games on the original 3DS look a tad stretched (it's not a big deal), they look better on the XL.

The article doesn't mention it as a new feature either haha, they just wrote that the feature is better thanks to the larger screens. They even mention what the pixel size of the original 3DS has when 1:1.

You said that the standard 3DS doesn't have 1:1 mode, well it does have that feature and it's exactly the same but small which is why it isn't that usable.

Again the 1:1 pixel mode on the 3DS XL is exactly the same but bigger because of the screens which is what these articles are mentioning.

Yup. It's better on the 3DS XL due to physical larger pixels.

I stand corrected. I misunderstood 1:1 pixel mode as something else (that is, not the "smaller" resolution mode, or whatever it is).

1:1 pixel IS the "smaller" size. The smaller size is an exact map of the pixels that would be displayed on the DS to the 3DS's screens. Since the 3DS has more pixels total, it just uses the center ones. 1:1 mode is often used because it prevents any sort of filtering or blurring from happening due to the upscale.

I prefer the original 3DS for several reasons:
-I find it slicker;
-It's smooth and shiny;
-It looks more modern, in return the 3DS XL seems more old fashioned;
-I don't like big handhelds;
-I can easily clean any dirt or fingerprints from the 3DS with a simple cloth and it's all gone;
-More compact, in the 3DS XL I tried it seemed more hollow inside when flicking it;
-I prefer the Select, Home and Start buttons the way they are on the 3DS, instead of the actual buttons;
-I'm left handed and I love the pen being on the left side... I bet most of the people that complained were right handed;
-Better screen quality... Well, from the ones I've seen the 3DS seems to have better display quality... Dunno if its from the screens themselves or something, the colour just appears more crisp and vivid on the 3DS to me.

I own a 3DS XL since 2 months ago, I'm glad I waited to buy a 3DS at launch instead. The original 3DS is great, but 3DS XL is simply perfect, not portable at all, I know, but it meets all my expectations for RPG games and racing games, they look awesome on those big screens, it feels so comfortable to play (a little heavier than original), and the fact that "select, home and start" are now real buttons are very welcomed (most for NDS games). I'd say go with the 3DS XL.

go to a story, try holding both, then decide.

i play a lot better on the xl personally, i also like the larger screens though, at times, things may look a little pixely.
its not very noticable though, as long as you keep a little distance between eye and display.

also, the xl looks a lot cleaner than my brothers normal 3ds, cause its not covered in that glossy piano stuff. theres like no smudges on the xl. the normal ones on the other hand... god. if you have some germ phobia, dont get a normal 3ds
