Hacking R4i 3ds Gold?

My friend has a 3DS that has working 3DS roms playing on it and he says he uses an R4i 3DS Gold. Do these work for 3DS Roms? if not then why does his work? I would like to know because i have been holding off on buying a 3DS until i found a Flashcart or mod method that would work with one. I have been searching the internet and found out there was none, but i told him and he said he has a flashcart that plays them and showed me. Again he said he uses an r4i 3DS gold. Is this true?

See if you can actually SEE him launch a rom. THAT will shut him up.

I will ask to witness him launching the rom and playing it myself next time i see him and report back, he is most likely saying bs because to my knowledge as of now there is no way to on a 3DS. However his family does run a modding service (specializes in 360s mainly). So this is why i somewhat believed him, but am still skeptical

Incase it is true (highly unlikely), make him tell you how he did it. Could be he could give some information. That could lead to some 3DS Flashcarts
