Hardware Wii U launch price. Any thoughts?

I can't speak for the UK, but the basic model at GameStop US definitely advertises it coming with a sensor bar.

according to nintendo's official websites the sensor bar is included in both models in USA but only in the premium pack in europe.

Do you use the HIGHEST price as a reference point in your comparison when you BUY stuff? Like this: if product X was once sold for $600, then $500, then $400, then $300 in the past, any price below the $600 mark for a similar product is a good price?

That's not what he's saying, I think. He's just making a point. Honestly, I find it ridiculous that people are whining about the Wii U costing OMG $300-$350 IS TOO MUCH MONEY when 2 out of 3 consoles had much higher prices at release at the beginning of this generation (and for weaker hardware at that, though that's understandable).

The other consoles had a higher price because parts and manufacturing costs were much higher. The Wii U is coming out at a time when making a HD console a considerably cheaper. Comparing the Wii U to the 360/PS3 is an unfair comparison.

How expensive do you think that tablet controller is on its own? And how expensive is a typical HDMI cable? If I recall, neither the PS3 or 360 came with an HDMI cable bundled in.

Guess I was misinformed. I was under the impression that HDMI cables are ridiculously expensive.

But at any rate, the Wii U is still substantially cheaper than last gen's consoles, considering the price you mentioned to produce and whatever. So I still don't see what the problem is, here.

You can get a HDMI cable less than a 'meal' as Macc D's. And it would be of good quality.

I said what I said that, considering the hardware that's in the Wii U, the price is more than justified. People have no right to bitch about the Wii U's $300/350 price tag in 2012 when the Xbox 360 and PS3 were $500/$600 back in 2006, both of which had proprietary hard drives, well, at least with the PS3.

Let's not forget inflation. It was $500/$600 back in 2006, and that is comparable to $571/$685 today.

Because Sony want to make a profit on each console sold. Particularly as the last three years have been good on the PS3. Sony can easily cut the price to compete with the Wii U if they need to.

Nintendo aren't selling a new console for $300. They will later this year but they aren't no. You have to make a distinction there. Even than it seems the Wii U isn't exactly a mighty shift from the PS3/360/

As it was said before, the WiiU is indeed more powerful than the PS3 and the 360, but not by as much as people tend to believe.

Trust me when I say that Nintendo does profit from the price they'll be selling their console for, wheras Sony originally posted losses due to selling the PS3 below its production, distribution and R&D cost, hoping that the game sales will make up for the difference. Right now, Sony is merely catching up to those losses since the production process has been perfected and the production of the console costs them less.
