An interesting piece of news which hints to having an almost virtual world inside your living/gaming room for the next xbox console. A possible 'output-kinect device':

Patent filings have also been reported for Microsoft and its Xbox 720, including a recently filed one that involves a “virtual game room” with 360-degree projection technology.
As described by the patent summary, “The peripheral images serve as an extension to a primary image displayed on a primary display. "

We have scenario whereby, a player will be placed in an environment that is presented in the game. This can range from jungles & dungeons to underwater adventures & outer space feats
.I believe this is what gamers wanted to experience when it came to 'motion controllers' whereby not only do you not need a controller... now you don't need a screen. As described above, the main display will be the screen but your interaction to it will come from the environment that the game presents.

Looking forward to some more updates and confirmations.

I am both interested and concerned. I am interested in seeing how this will turn out and it in action. But I am concerned that it most likely will take forever to be released, be a bit pricey, and be a massive hassle to put up and or take down.
Not saying I don't enjoy the idea of this, I just have my concerns.

And what about all the stuff that's on the walls and whatnot? You might not see everything clearly. You'd be best off in a room with no windows, a white tile floor and a simple flatscreen TV hanging on the wall and the projector in the middle of the room.

Stupid. I don't have a room for this.

Exactly my thoughts.

I really don't think this is generally intended for home use. It'd need to be set up in a specified environment. Could be the revival of gaming arcades. Or gaming bars. It could be pretty cool.

Keep in mind that not everyone is going to think that. They're going to see "OMG MY GAME ON THE WALLS!!!!!1!!!one!1!111111" and buy it.

I don't see how this would work but it seems interesting.

I know "gaming goggles' are the new "future tech" trend at the moment, with Valve working on one and there's another one that plays Doom 3 (whoop-di-fucking-do), and that seems a bit more plausible than 360 projection.

However this is only a patent which have covered a variety of things that never happened. This could all just be brainstorming on Microsoft's part and their just making sure those brainstormed ideas don't get taken, just in case.
