Amazon announces new Kindle Fire HD tablets with LTE, 8.9-inch screen

The new 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablet will be priced at $299, the 7-inch at $199, and an LTE model at $499


Amazon on Thursday heated up the tablet competition with the introduction of new Kindle Fire HD tablets, including a model with LTE capabilities and another model with an 8.9-inch screen that can display images at a resolution of 1920 by 1200 pixels.

AFAIK none... I tried searching in there website and it doesn't say anything regarding micro sd slot. The only options that they have is 16GB to 32GB for the 7", and 32GB to 64GB for the 8.9"

I prefer tablets with cellular, but $499 for the LTE tablet will definitely be expensive to import (even if 32GB), so sadly I'm out.

But I can't deny how good these new Kindles look.

Really? I always thought they were underpowered.

I'm not that fussy about power. As long as I can play games decently I'm happy. I need to get my current tablet fixed. Just reading this thread is making me miss it badly right now.

Presumably you could remove them when its rooted, but I think it will turn a lot of people off initally.

The current fire is easily rooted and replaced with ICS if desired. Don't see why the new model will be different.

Well... still does not seem better than the Google Nexus. I have the Kindle Fire with a 1 year warranty that expires in 2013. Any clever ideas so that I can return it with a refund so that I can buy the new Kindle? Lol

As I understand it, the $159 model is a new one, similar to the old one but with extra RAM and a few other things I think. (Plus the ads which each member of the new Fire family will have).

Actually the one is $199, you may be confused with the fact that it's £159 over here.

The $199 one is the new 7" HD one, the $159 one is the improved version of the old one.
