Why can't I just use normal SD cards instead of the ridiculously priced ps vita memory cards? This is one of the reasons why I am not a huge fan of Sony...

The reason Sony forces you to use their cards is the same reason Apple doesn't have SD/MicroSD support in their products.
It's to make you pay them more money. That's just how marketing works.

Are you asking why the Vita isn't capable of using SD cards, or are you asking why did Sony decide to use a proprietary format?

Know what? It doesn't matter. Either way, there's really no reason for this thread. You'll just be getting the same answers over and over again for a while until a handful of Hardcore Nintendo fanboys come in and start a big circle jerk with you. :(

It's good to know someone else appreciates the term "circle jerk" like I do.

I'm sure this thread was very helpful and contributed in finding a workaroud for this.
Well if you're so sure one exists, why not find it for him and prove all the other posters as having wasted their time?
It was sarcasm, not directed to posters but to OP.
I just wanted to say that posting threads like these won't help a bit.

Where have you been? Sony has been doing this for years.

The advantage is that the data is encrypted.

Oh wait, you said advantage for the user. Sorry, Sony only make advantages for themselves and strip the user of as many privileges as possible to protect their profit margins. After all, Sony doesn't want those sneaky hackers to crack open another system of theirs.

Oh man a company selling a product to make a profit that's so shitty of them.

No offense but they're probably not making a lot for each Vita sold. This is one way to fill the gap in profit.
Unlike Nintendo or Amazon Kindle, Sony makes a huge profit by just selling Vita alone.
