I knew it! I wonder if this is also going to be free though?
No, if it was free then the could not make any money on it. I would suspect that the game will retail for $30 or $40 on Steam.
But the mod was free, its not like the Arma producers were paying them for it >_> they weren't making money off of it to begin with.

Technically they were, a lot of people only bought ArmA so they can play this.I knew it! I wonder if this is also going to be free though?

But not the modders, just the Arma producers. Frankly, the only reason I can see it not being free is just greed.

Also because DayZ is kinda shit at the moment. Admittedly it has great ideas but it doesn't have nearly as much resources to make it take off. The best mods are still mods.
With the proper funding and full access to the game engine, it means this game can truly shine. Hell, we could even see it on the ArmA III engine.
It's just rather selfish to complain about paying for a retail game. It's more than a mod at this point. Its a whole other game. People didn't complain over Counterstrike Source, Team Fortress 2, and so on, why are complaining about this?

I wasnt deep enough into gaming back when those were things to complain aboutAnd TF2 and Counter Strike are different. TF2 and CS were made as a games to be bought and is as much of a mod as any other game would be on a game engine.
DayZ is a mod developed by some guys who thought Arma's engine would be good for a realistic zombie survival.
Day Z is no closer to a retail game then something like say, Tekkit would be. Therefore, if I do not have to pay for Tekkit why do I have to pay for Day Z, especially if Day Z is probably just going to run on the bare-bones Arma II engine and not involve any actual development of its own engine.
And there is of course, the fact that the mod itself is free and they didnt make money off Arma II sales. If I buy Minecraft for a major mod like Tekkit, the Tekkit developers make no money off me buying Minecraft, so once again. Why would they charge for this game for any reason other then greed?

How's this any different from TF2 or Counterstrike? Actually, a better comparison is Dota 2. The original Dota is one of the most popular mods ever. Then one of the developers got a large studio behind him (Valve) with the proper resources to create Dota 2, which is also being very well received. Yes, it's free to play, but it was developed with the intention of making a profit, like almost any game.
DayZ WAS a mod. Now it's on to being a retail game. That doesn't mean taking the mod and slapping a price tag on it. If that was the case, we'd be able to buy it by next week. No, it means developing it from the ground up. There's only so much you can do as a modder. With the resources of a large studio and full access to the engine and tools of the game you modded, you can much, much more complete games.
You don't seem to get the concept that this isn't just the mod with a price tag. This is its own game. Anyone who has played DayZ knows just how rough it is around the edges, and anyone whose enjoyed DayZ would easily pay money for a version of the game that isn't rough. This can be achieved with what I mentioned above. And the stuff mentioned above costs money, and the way to cover those losses and ensure a future for the game and the developers is to sell the game.
Unfortunately not every company has money that grows on trees. People need to making a living and games need money to be made.

Im not saying that, really the only reason I said it should be free was because it was mod. But since the same guys who developed Arma developed this I can understand while they would sell it now![]()

The mod will still be free of course, it just won't be supported after launch pretty much. Plus, with Steam deals, I'm sure owning a copy of ArmA II may get you a discount towards the DayZ game.
Owners of Arma II better get a damn deal, if not free.Glad I didn't jump on it, gonna wait till they rub out any kinks.

Edit: It appears I derp'd. I quoted you by accident...
Never heard of Killing Floor but, one of the Arma II developers actually developed the mod, so in a way, they made the mod. I do see what you're saying though, a bit like purchasing an alpha or beta game, there's no gurantees (I guess DayZ is still in Alpha anyway xD)Owners of Arma II better get a damn deal, if not free.Glad I didn't jump on it, gonna wait till they rub out any kinks.

Why? They got ArmaII itself, and the expansion. You already got the games you paid for, DayZ was just a mod. They didn't make the mod, afaik. Did Killing Floor do anything special when it went from mod to standalone game?
It doesn't take a genious to know the reasons. And there is of course, the fact that the mod itself is free and they didnt make money off Arma II sales. 1. To give it better support.
2. So that people like me who don't give a flying shit about ArmA 2 can get it without having to have that game installed.
Also this is good for the devs of the game, they can gain from the sales of this release.
Yep. Although, the DayZ mod which is in alpha, is imo already better than War Z which is in Beta (Well closed beta, anyway)Day Z vs War Z.
The Battle shall commence!
My thoughts preciselyThis is why I haven't bought ArmA II yet.
