K so Nintendo have this data transfer from 3DS to 3DS XL. Its cool and all, but i sold my 3DS when Vita came out. So i took backup on my computer (the whole SD card), and now i cant get this transfer over to my XL just because i dont have an 3DS? or is there a way to fix this?. I have tried to copy the files over to the XL SD card, but no luck. It just tells me to format the card cause of the files are corrupt or something.

Does anyone know how to do this without a 3DS? is there a way?

I would really like to know :) ty!

You're out of luck.

that means i have to get a 3DS in order to get my transfer?

you need the console to transfer the data over, you can't just copy contents from a sd card it dosn't work that way unfortunately.

dammit! i was afraid of that. its pretty stupid to make it this way Nintendo!.. well well, i have to get my hands on a 3ds then, cause i have a few eshop games that i want.

Ty for answers anyways :) and let this topic be here for others to see. Ive tried to google the answer, but no luck :\

Cheers!

The way I understand it, you need the original 3ds the e-shop game was downloaded on. The license is tied to that specific unit. If you get a random 3ds and try to play a game you downloaded from the 3ds you sold before, it probably wouldn't work, even if you backed up the whole SD card before selling. So, even if you get a random 3ds to transfer data to the new XL, it might not work. You might need your old 3ds unit that you sold, to transfer correctly the licenses.

Crap! crapcrap :| well, my old 3DS is lost, i traded it in gamestop when Vita came. But i did this; http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/3ds/en_na/ht_settings.jsp?menu=data%20management&submenu=ctr-ht-settings-tranfer-data-to-sd . Wont it work? cause. when i formated my old 3DS and then tried my backup data card and the games where there on the main screen. But it depends if the 3DS systemtransfer only takes the eshop.

HAHA lol nwm, "Important Note! Data being transferred to an SD Card is only useable on the system it came from." . GREAT Nintendo, why dont they just make a damn eshop user login?? bah now i lost some eshop games :(

I just lost around 30-40$ myself because of a corrupted system transfer.

Now on my new 3DS XL, I changed region to UK/England, so I can link a club nintendo account.

That way if I ever buy a new 3DS I just have to link it to my club nintendo account and all stuff I bought witht that eshop account should be there.

Nope, i had a club nintendo account linked to my eshop since day one, my 3DS took a tumble, the motherboard was replaced under an extended warranty and now i traded in the replacement for a 3DS XL. Went to the eshop and none of my history is there, no ambassador games, nothing, nor on the website either, so having a club nintendo account linked really doesn't work :(

Hmm I dont think you're supposed to check your history.
I think it was something like this:
1. Open eShop and link your club nintendo account.
2. restart the 3DS.
3. Open eShop
4. Go to "Settings/other"
5. Click "Titles You've Downloaded"
6. Working?

(When you mentioned history I took it as the "Your account activity")

As i mentioned in my previous post, my original console died, hence not being able to do a system transfer.
Nintendo have a seriously stupid way of doing all this, why not force a club nintendo account creation process with new consoles and tie everything to that, that way people don't lose out. Imagine if Valve had decided that all steam stuff was PC locked, there would be an uproar then, but Nintendo gets away with this shit???

Nintendo normally transfer licensees when they repair a console so you could of re downloaded onto the console

when you traded in your console you traded in the licensees so basically you no longer owned teh games
completely different to steam who lock to accounts rarther than systems

whoever bought your console now owns the ambassador games, and might not even know it lol

No, you misunderstand, my original console died, completely and utterly, the motherboard was b0rked! When i sent it off under and extended warranty to be repaired by a company called "Console Doctor" (it was out of nintendo's warranty ya see) they replaced the motherboard, so the original ambassador motherboard ceases to exist now! Therefore no-one has my Ambassador status, least of all, me :(
