I'm going to be buying myself a 3DS in less than a week (finally) and I'm debating on which games I should buy alongside the console. I am still stuck between Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, but now I'm looking into some downloadable titles.

As the title says, I want to purchase Plants vs Zombies but I'm debating on if I should purchase the DSiWare version on my 3DS that is available through the E-Shop, or if I should buy the retail DS game card? Any opinions would be beneficial and I thank you ahead of time!

I've never played a Plants vs Zombies game, unfortunately (not even on my android phone). Crazy, right? But I thought this would be a better time than ever to do so!

I know that the actual DS card costs $19.99 new ($17.99 used) at Gamestop, but I do not know the price of E-Shop's DSiWare version, so if you know the price (or if you wouldn't mind taking a minute to check), I'd greatly appreciate it!

Also, what are the main differences between the two versions? Honestly, the DSiWare version appeals to me more, mostly because it'll be a fun little game that's downloaded onto my console and I won't need to bring the card around with me. But I'd like to know if there are any major gameplay-wise differences. Thank you ahead of time for any input you can provide!

Plants VS Zombies sucks.

For the sake of actually helping, the DSiware version is somewhere around 7 or 8 dollars. I'd check for you but I don't want to waste my demo that I have open.

Get mario kart 7 for a start lol As for PVZ, I only own the cart version but if the DSIware version if a carbon copy of the cart then get it downloadable, it will be cheaper and PVZ is a game that you wanna play in quick bursts of levels and having to fiddle around with a cart to play it will drive you nuts.

However you will need to get someone to confirm that it is the same as the cart version.

Thank you. My eyes couldn't breathe after seeing that horrid thing.

TO TC: I suggest you get the DS version -- it has tons of side challenges (especially the Endless modes, those are always fun), has the tree and zen garden, all the items buyable from that crazy dude, and 2-player versus. Granted, the versus mode is imbalanced (a good Plant player puts up a good fight, but a good Zombie player wins), but IIRC, the DS retail version is THE only version of PvZ to sport multiplay--not even the PC has 2player, but i might be wrong. multiplay supports Download Play (2 DS, one game cart) and multicart (2 DS, 2 game carts).

^because they/we like the game?

I have the DSiware and the retail cart. The retail version is the full version game. Minigames, puzzles, survival. DSiware only have the mini games tab. Both have achievements tho but nothing significant.

there you go. btw, how was the multi on those? DS was really skewed, Plant player stand no chance against a spammer Zombie player. two or three Football Zombies and you're toast if you don't have a quick nuke or two.

Ok, let me try to actually answer your question.

I am not unlike you. I would much rather have a game saved to my 3DS then lugging around a spare game card. Perfect example was tetris. I got Tetris Axis for my 3DS, but I was highly disappointed in it. So much so I bought the DSiware Tetris Party and haven't looked back. For me, when it comes to tetris, I just want to clear lines in Marathon mode, the other modes don't matter to me in the slightest.

But back to the matter at hand. I've been looking around, and it looks like the DSiware version of Plants Vs Zombies has most of what the cartridge version does. It's missing stuff like Puzzle, Survival, and Multiplayer, and (arguably) smaller things like the Zen Garden and Tree of Wisdom. It holds the entire adventure mode and the mini games however. In that respect, it is nearly identical to the Android version of Plants Vs Zombies (which I have, which is still fun missing these things).

If you're like me, then you wont regret getting the DSiware version. However, if the stuff I mentioned that was removed is stuff you wanted, you're better off with the cartridge version.

If you have an iPhone or IPod touch, I'd say get it on that. It is cheaper and IMO I would rather play some other game on my 3DS than PvZ. If this isn't an option, get the e-shop version. Carrying around a cartrage for this game is not worth it at all.

Thank you everybody for your input and suggestions, I certainly appreciate them!

I definitely agree with BenRK, in that I'd rather have this simple game downloaded instead of carrying around the cart. Fortunately, I do have an android phone and while that version would be a cheaper, I'm not too big with gaming on my phone and I know for sure that I won't be playing many games on my phone as it is, once I get my 3DS. Though the mobile version could always be an option, if I decide on a different downloadable title.

Off Topic Well, it seems that people seriously don't take well to the Comic Sans font so I'll just switch over to a more "normal" font, Verdana. I'm sorry if my choice of font offended anybody.

Since the OP has had his question answered I was hoping to throw my own question out there as it is similar.
Does anyone know of any significant difference between the little red riding hood's Zombie BBQ DS version compared to the DSi version?
been thinking about buying it and I wanted to get the full package.
