i'm looking to buy a tablet to READ a lot of things on (comics + eBooks) and maybe watch some MOVIES.
but they are still quite pricey IMHO, even the cheaper knock-off tablets.... will they keep dropping? How much have they dropped from the beginning of 2012?

Both tabs run Android 4.0 and have Mali 400 GPUs. Have fun
You would trust you'd get a good tablet from dealxtreme ? You'd just have to be an idiot to flush your money like that. Get real. Even if it was good, by the time dx actually ships it, technology will evolve at least 1 generation

EDIT: to clarify, I'm saying that dealxtreme's one single option shipping is awful and takes long as FUCK

They'll drop in the same was that laptop prices drop. It may take a while before the average price drops, but that will be due to a couple companies starting to make corner-cutting common (like with your average dell inspiron or acer aspire), and to get something non-crappy (like a lenovo business machine) you'll still be paying the higher price.

Prices do drop on older technology (up until scarcity or non-production), but usually you'll only see about a 25% reduction in retail price at the most because the products stop being sold retail.

Just because YOU had a bad experience does not mean that everybody has had a bad experience. It's all about research, research, research. What the OP wanted was very low key. The two tablets I posted would satisfy the OP's need without breaking the bank.

But is it really meeting the original poster's criteria ? Sure, 80 bucks is inexpensive, UNLESS it's trash and something else needs to be purchased. Take a look at the Dealextreme return policy.

Policy: Upon being returned, the defective item will be refunded or replaced for free. Return shipping fee reimbursement is 35% of the item's price up to a maximum of $40.

If the tablet is a piece of shit, you're gonna have to spend $28 before you get your money back. But that's not all; you are dealing with massive shipping times; this is par for the course, not just a problem I had.

I understand your sentiment but it's all about research and knowing that you are getting what you paid for. My current tablet is a mixed bag but in the end it was a matter of me not doing enough research, I like my tablet but it does not do everything I want it to do properly. am I pissed? Nope. Actually I consider the whole thing a learning experience. I actually learned more about Android OS and the way things are with this one device than with others. I'm just saying that it's not all doom and gloom.

avoid these cheap no name/brand nobody has heard of from china tablets
yeah you save some money but if it breaks (which it probably will from poor quality parts), you are pretty much screwed

buy name brand

for ereading purposes you wont need a real powerful tab
for movies though a strong would be better, especially using formats like mkv, ogm, ect...

they just started releasing tegra 3 based tabs so the tegra 2 tabs went down in price by a nice margin

if you are calling the knock-off tabs pricey then I suggest saving more money

how expensive is too expensive?
100 euros, so about 120 USD is expensive and out of my budget atm. I could buy a 500 euros tablet, sure, but I don't want to spend that kind of money on this.
i already have a galaxy S smartphone, but I would like something bigger for books/movies

Hmm I know of a decent tablet for $250 or 199 euros, it's comparable to more expensive tablets, runs ICS, 1gb ram, same processor as the galaxy nexus, an OMAP4460

Ipad 1G is starting to get fairly cheap. I sometimes find them under £200.
excellent. i'm looking at the nexus 7 atm, seems like an incredible tablet for that price! but screen is not big enough + no SD slot :/
This is the best tablet you can get for the price. There are alot of webstorages now which arnt terrible.

No SD card slot is bad, however if you are just trying to store movies, pictures, music, etc, you can get a USB OTG adapter and plug in a flash drive. You cant store your apps or games on it that I'm aware of however
