hello i have a PSP 3000 using 6.20 pro perma patch
im faking 6.60 OFW
my PSP is a Mystic Silver PSP from the United States Dissidia "Limited edition set"
and im wondering if i install a plugin to the Flash 3 and reference them in the VSH.txt file would this brick my PSP.
i realize this method shouldnt effect my IPL but i wanna be safe.
the plugins are CXMB and XMB Item Hider (xmbih). and they are currently running off my memory stick
so im wondering if anyone has tried and failed/succeeded?

Assuming you also mean using a set of plugin control files in flash as well to remove the PSP's dependency on a memory stick to have a custom theme on boot (as I can't think of another reason to do this)... I doubt anybody's tried, because it's a bad idea to begin with.

If you screw up anything with CXMB and the PSP refuses to boot full with it enabled (and I've run across at least two "working" themes that have done that to me personally), normally disabling it is as easy as removing the memory stick and restarting the PSP, where it'll be unable to load the plugin on startup and will boot the normal/unmodded VSH where you're free to change things (and you can just mod the data on the stick anyways).

If all of it's installed in flash3, you can't do that. While you may be able to still enter the recovery menu before the problem takes effect, I really don't feel like risking needing to pandora my 2000 to run a check (seeing as with the 6.20 permanent patch the recovery menu check appears to be after the IPL)... because even though with the perma patch you can boot into OFW mode, in OFW mode you have no way to disable the plugin anyways since you will lack access to the recovery menu to toggle it normally, and last I checked signed homebrew does not have the permissions to write to flash for you to edit the files.

Again, this is assuming you want the whole package to be in flash, if not ignore this.

i see where you are coming from. it would still be dependent on the VSH.txt file which is on my memory stick
i slao have tested all my themes and they work except for p3t (its just a wallpaper glitch)
i could remove the memory stick and boot into a "CXMB-less" mode by restarting with my MS ejected
on the PC you could disable the flash 3 CXMB through the VSH.txt file and temporally reinstall it to ms0: and reboot to CFW
i should still be able to work with XMB item hider correct as it only reads the ini

i was only going to install CXMB to the Flash 3
vsh.txt and the themes would be normal (i dont even know how to change the location for those

i was going to use the command
Code:
flash3:/seplugins/cxmb/cxmb.prx
the following file tree
  • flash3
    • seplugins
      • cxmb
        • cxmb.prx
        • conf.txt (i could probably get rid of this as i dont use cxmb tor theme conversion)
        • support
          • [various firmware files] (i could probably get rid of this as i dont use cxmb tor theme conversion)
    • xmbih.prx
    • xmbih.inf
  • ms0
    • seplugins
      • vsh.txt

If the control files would still be on the memory card then it shouldn't be an issue (as flash3 itself is not critical last I checked, only being used for some scratch data), did you just want this so it'd load faster or something?

I've never used xmb hider so I can't comment there.

maybe its b/c its a 3000 and cannot have cIPL
a phat is a 1000 and the IPL (or inital program loader) is what boots up the PSP

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
