Gaming DSi 1.4.4u Update Live

Okay here are the results, I update my DSiXL and tried both of my exploited games (cooking coach and cross words).

Cooking coach loads just like a brand new game... looks like the save got deleted upon launch...

Classic cross words says the save file is corrupted... once again once I accept to format it starts like brand new.

Looks like they found a way to check the save files and erase/corrupt them.

One last hope: I remember having played around with my save dumper/eraser, so maybe I just accidently erased them on purpose, I'll try to put the exploit back inside saturday, but don't hold your breath. edit: see my next post...
 
UPDATE: There is no hope anymore, I injected both exploited save files back on my games, confirmed they work on my 1.4.3 DSi (dsilink works fine)

As soon as I insert them on my 1.4.4 DSi they both say the save file is corrupted.

Maybe someone of the DSi homebrew scene will have more infos about what Nintendo has done (even if it's obvious that they have certainly used a similar method which is already used on Wii).

Well that was unexpected. It's a bit sad losing the DSiMode compatibility, but then again I'll just keep the DSiXL with 1.4.3. Bad thing that I didn't keep it in 1.4.1/1.4.2 for DSmode on the iEvo (full compatibility for one console).

If someone finds anything regarding how the saves have been checked, I'd be interested :)

either way, no reason to update. my r4i-sdhc is still working, i never use the shop channel, why bother updating?

the only reason i ever updated my dsi firmware was to download that zelda game, but even then it wasnt worth time, and like someone previously said, why does nintendo bother anymore?

Nintendo is not updating the wii anytime soon, mega 64 realised this for us in 2011

If you don't care about either of those things, you don't have to update. The DSi(XL) does not auto-update, so you're safe.

Also what is meant by DSi mode and DS homebrew?

Is DSi some code that is run to enable the region lock for the "DSi Enhanced Games." Seen it mentioned here, guessing it is exploited to lounch flash cards?

My bad english has gotten me confused. When people talk of DS Hombrew and "Hacking the DS" are you just talking about using a flash card? Or is there really something you can do like installing the homebrew channel on the wii?

DS Homebrew is any code for the DS that's written by users. It needs a flashcart or an exploit to be run.

DSi Mode is running homebrew (or rarely commercial ROMs) with the DSi's unlocked hardware. Normal DS games and homebrew are oblivious to the twice-as-fast CPU and the 4x RAM. Unfortunately, only one flashcart (the Cyclo iEVO) and DSi exploits can run in DSi-Mode.

"Hacking the DS" usually refers to flashcarts, although with the DSi and 3DS it can refer to flashcarts or exploits.

I knew the DSi+DSi XL/LL bosted shinier hardware than the DSphat+Lite but I did not know that is what DSi enhanced games entailed. I thought the "Enhanced part" was simply denoting region lock and that the game might use the camera.

So a old DS game will run better on a supercard DSTWO on the DSi?DSi XL/LL because the flashcard enables the use of that extra cpu power? I don't get how this works? The rom has not been changed to utilise more cup power, or is it just like the difference of when you run a game on a computer with a cpu clocked at 2Ghz and then on a computer with a cpu clocked at 3.5Ghz?
 
ds2's on-board cpu is not accessed by ds roms. it makes no difference that it is there. the cpu is used for the in-game menu features, the movie player (etc), and some exclusive emulation homebrew. in dsi-mode, roms theoretically could access a faster cpu and more ram, but only the cyclods ievolution could do this. sadly, their "compatibility layer" which should have accomplished this was buggy and not exactly "working". when you run any slot-1 flash it (other than the ievo) you are running in in ds-mode regardless of the system you are using. which means the slower cpu, 4mb of ram, wep wifi, etc. the fact the the dsi and 3ds maintained backwards compatibility is the only reason ds phat/lite flash kits continue to function, because ds-mode is still there.

There's no guarentee that they will continue to do so. The 3DS's terms of service prohibits the use of cheats, so it would make sense for them to at least try to block it on the DSi. (this makes me wonder if they will block the Action Replay on the 3DS's next update)
