"I don't give a toss on sales, predictions, opinions, never have all my life and why should I start now."

By all means carry on doing as such and you will probably never suffer any ill for it. Indeed the same goes for everybody- please do carry on enjoying games. However one should note enjoyment does not necessarily correlate to good sales and more importantly for this it does not necessarily correspond to good investment (companies might have debts, R&D bills, acquisitions, court cases..... all of which worry profits and share prices) which we should not forget is what this guy it paid to advise people on.

I am half inclined to agree with a fair bit of what he says although I would agree with the someone calling him a pundit with all that it might entail (a good chunk of his authority so to speak is dependent upon his name being out there)- going back to the it is about stocks thing let us gaze upon numbers

2007-2008 (until about Q3 anyway) was rarely below 60. Today it sits at under/around 20. Assuming no dividends 1 share purchased in early 2008 is worth about a third of what it was aka a bad investment. Granted it is fairly similar for many games related companies but Nintendo has demonstrated a bit of a slide where others are doing a bit better and picking late 2007 early 2008 might not have been very fair.

Equally if indeed a good chunk of Nintendo's current profit comes from getting new customers and relying on those newer customers to gain them some profit at a given level (say expecting a conversion rate of something) rather than existing long term ones and that first group(s?) is being distracted by other things such as web games (especially those tied to social networks) and mobile phone type games and similar devices (all areas Nintendo (and possibly most of the existing bigger players) are lacking in) then the future might not be that rosy.

Again carry on enjoying games- this is just some ancillary discussion. Sometimes this sort of stuff is nice to know as you can try to predict where companies might head next or where they would do better to stay away from (at least as far as potential profit is concerned which let us not forget companies are legally obligated to pursue above nearly all else) and the chances of them issuing a new entry in your chosen franchise.

wait... this is similar to how PETO (or what ever) said sm3d land is about killing animals. in the end he takes back what he says because everybody calls him stupid and what not.

I think you just broke my internal logic Luigi2011SM64- the guy said in my opinion as an investment analyst with something resembling a speciality in games that if Nintendo carries on as is/as they appear to be gearing up for (another console and another handheld) with their current target customer (which he speculates might be half that of the wii) on their current timeframe (too little too late) they will probably not see the mega profits primarily as the likes of mobile phone games and social network games provide a lower barrier to entry (and to be frank bad mobile phone puzzle games are cheaper and more readily available than bad dedicated handheld puzzle game which both do the same thing) none of which Nintendo is in on.
He did not really mince his words and indeed might have even overstated them (again see him needing to keep his name out there for various reasons although I will say investment is just as fond of soundbites/pithy summaries as many other areas) leading to some taking exception.
He then said I heard your points and it changes nothing and indeed here is some more of my underlying logic that went into forming that statement.

Peta on the other hand engaged in their usual tactic of "look at me" with no real goal/intent other than to be peta.

I am not even inclined to give you it is superficially the same.

Oh, boy...
I can't wait to play MGS5 and The Elder Scrolls 6 on my Samsung Galaxy Player...

Seriously, hand held consoles and mobile consoles always have their own market.
That's like comparing how many people in 2005 played Space Invaders on their Nokia 6500 and how many people played Pokemon on the GBA an saying that the handheld market is doomed!

No!

Not really.

First off, as much as Pachter is, um, "viewed negatively" in the gaming community, he's not that balls-to-the-wall insane that PETA is. Pachter says the Wii is for kiddies. PETA supports domestic terrorism. Rather different.

Second, this is Pachter DEFENDING his claim, PETA RETRACTED their claim because it turned into even worse PR. PETA's goal was still to turn heads and get some attention, and that they did. Although Pachter was also wanting the same thing most likely so there's at least one similarity.

This is also an analysis while PETA was just being PETA.
