Hi guys recently I lost my iphone 4,I rang my insurance company and they sorted me out got myself a replacment iphone 4.My iphone 4 was handed into a pub I frequent from time to time and the owner said it was handed in by some guy who found it outside the pub. Now I have 2 iphones but my old 1 is coming up saying no service,any ideas how to fix this or did the insurance company have the imei blocked,is there any way that I can unblock it and get my services back up and running ? as I was going to give it to my dad thanks in advance.

model = iphone 4
ios = 4.3.5 (8L1)
baseband (modem fw) = 04.10.01

also not jailbroken

Ps not sure if its imei related because when i type *#06# to check it actually lists the imei number,if this was barred would it even show up ? thanks.

Some phone companies do not block IMEI numbers even if they are reported stolen. Your best bet is to call up your provider and ask if the IMEI is barred from their network. I assume this is a GSM phone, if so it is possible to switch your sim cards and see if the phone still works on their network.

If it is blocked on one network, it may not be blocked in another and the phone is good to be sold for parts, so you have some options there.
If the phone is banned from the network, it is banned, no legal way around it that I know of. Changing IMEI may or may not be possible for iPhone 4 and is illegal to do so

IMEI will still show up *#06# is typed when banned.

Thanks alot for the info.I just found out my phone is locked by my old provider so it wont work on their network.I can get it unlocked to use with another provider at a cost of 40 euros.Would you recommend that option or should I buy a gevey sim for 15 euros and unlock it myself.My iphone details are in the first post above heres the website http://www.phonesonl...?ProductID=1559 by reading the specs it seems I can use this is that correct ?

Also I was looking to jailbreak my iphone on the above specs using redsnow but when I use itunes it asks me to insert a valid sim card !!! So I cant actually back anything up.Is there a safe way I can jailbreak and keep the specs on my iphone without updating the ios or baseband.Im worried if it updates to iso 5 the gevey sim will be useless,thanks for reading.

An official unlock is always better than a work around one. It also boosts the resale value of the phone.
Is there no way to get it unbarred from your old network? I mean you can cite all your account details and such, something a thief wouldn't be able to do.

You can ring up your provider to unblock the imei, ive done this after ive claimed off my insurance before, was in pretty much the same situation as you. they key is not having insurance taken out with any company affiliated with your contract provider otherwise it doesnt work

No m8 as the insurance was taking out with the provider themselves bummer really.So would you recommend the unblock for 40 euros so it can work on the vodafone network or the gevey sim ?.
Also any recommendations on the jailbreak I actually got the original sim but is blocked itunes is no longer given me the sim error I can actually back up the firmware now.Thanks.
