Hi, i agree with most people about devs. deserving some appreciation in the form of donations..
But i also think i can see where the comments come from about the 1st post..
Open source is a very special category..its totally voluntairy if you by any means work on it, by developing it or maybe just help out finding the bugs or write tutorals for it (etc.).
Its always a question for devs. to even getting a little money for it, let alone live on it...other people involved don't usually even have a "donate" mention for/on the project.
So i think, although it's reasonable to get something for the effort, expecting it is a step further, everybody can choose to work or not to work on a project..It's a thing most see as a love for the hobby...
Here is a little story to explain why i wrote this:
I have seen the downside of this, Miigotu, one of the developers of Wiiflow, was depending too much on donations for his life support..
That did not work out to good for him..even though at first he got quite substantial donations, it helped him trough 2 months rent, after that the donations dried up so he tried all kinds of other things to get extra money of wiiflow.
My opinion is he got obsessed with it, if he just accepted he was doing it for the fun/love/whatever, this would not be so bad.
He is gone from the scene for a while now, left a bit of a mess behind, which almost destroyed his personal life and Wiiflow itself..
I do have to say, he did good things for Wiiflow, but as soon as it was about money things went wrong.
Last thing i'd like to say is: i myself already spend a tremendous amount of time in the scene, helping out where i can, and probably will still be spending a lot of time in the future as long as i am still enjoying myself with it.
So do a lot of other people, for example X-flak (i had to mention you
) , i don't know anybody, who loves this sooo much, that he never complains about appreciation.
So lets all keep it nice and just be glad there is a community that helps one another and works together to do wonderfull things..
