Gaming Successful TRIPLE boot (tutorial)

Just wanted to tell you all about my newfound success lol, I just finished installing Ubuntu on my acer aspire 5516 with an upgraded AMD Turion x2 processor, I now have Ubuntu 11.1, Windows 8, and Mac OSX Snow leopard 10.6.8 (Not lion yet amd isn't supported yet sadly) SNow leopard was the hardest one but I got it to work thanks to Nawcom and his Mod CD

Since apparently People want me to make a tutorial here it is.

What you need:

Spoiler

- 2 USBs(2GB Minimum )
- A HDD ( Partion it with 4 Partitions(all fat32 or exfat) 3 large and one small [small being 2gb for a swap disk for ubuntu] )Sorry this is for advanced users if you can't do that on your own than do not try this tutorial.
- Retail Snow leopard

First download Nawcom's Mod CD From http://www.osx86.net...odcd_0.3.2.html

Download WIndows 8 (Just the Dev Preview but it's cool) From http://wdp.dlws.micr...bit-English.iso

Download Ubuntu 11.1 From http://www.ubuntu.co...&release=latest

Download Universal USB Installer http://www.pendrivel...-easy-as-1-2-3/

Download YUMI (same thing almost but this is what i did) http://www.pendrivel...ot-usb-creator/

Mac OSX Snow Leopard

1. Next after you've downloaded all of that junk Open up YUMI and selct your USB drive , select try a different iso (something like that ) all the way at the bottom. and check format then create , this will be the boot usb for mac osx

2. After that put in your retail cd and boot to your usb , then select directly bootable isos and after that select the mod cd iso

3. This will boot into the chemeleon boot loader , in there select Mac OSX Install CD and hit enter

4. Once it booted go to "go" and select disk utilities , from there select the partition you want to have mac on and format it to mac osx journeled

5. Exit the disk utlity and follow the on screen instructions (you shouldn't need to do any customization because nawcom selects the drivers automatically .

6. Install it(Click install)

7. Then boot into the usb again and select the mac volume name you formatted earlier, if you boot and it freezes and acpi system state you can try a combonation of any of these commands ( -x (safe boot) -v (verbose but sometimes this is all you need) ForceWake=y( I usually need this half the time )

8.Boot and set up your new mac OS (again with the USB)

Windows 8

9. To windows 8 !!

10. Burn the iso to a CD

11. Boot the cd and when it comes to a partition menu and select the partition you want to have windows 8 and format it NTFS and install (easy)

12. Set up Windows 8

Ubuntu 11.

13. Now on to ubuntu!

14. Open Universal USB Installer Select ubuntu as the distribution and select the iso of ubuntu and select your other usb device and then press the create button.

15. Restart and boot your USB

16. It will boot automatically into the Ubuntu installation screen , Follow the instructions and along the way pick install ubuntu instead of live usb or cd(sorry don't know when this happends i forget , once you get to a screen that shows the partitions select the one you want ubuntu on and format it ext4 and the mount should be /

17. Now go to your smaller partition and format it to swap (this is needed to improve ubuntu performance)

18. Then continue and follow the onscreen instructions from there

19. Set up Ubuntu

Now to boot mac osx
1. insert the usb with the mod cd on it and boot it
2. Select the mac osx partition
3. That will boot Mac Snow Leopard

To boot windows 8
1.Just boot your HDD normally
2. at the purple menu select Windows recovery (something like that)
3.That will boot into windows 8

To boot Ubuntu
1. Boot your HDD normally
2.Select Ubuntu
3. If it only loads to a desktop with nothing else after you enter your password then boot with ubuntu recovery
4. DONE



Oh god that was a lot of typing , never want to do that again . Anyways Nawcom's mod cd and mac will be the main issue for everyone the nawcom cd loads a bunch of drivers so it supports many users , People with Intel Processors have a better sucess rate then AMD as usual and owners of a 6 core AMD Phenom may have issues , if you have a phenom and it doesn't work then you have to wat for a new nawcom cd to come out with a new legacy kernel loaded.

IIRC The issue a while back was that AMD processors didn't support the instruction set needed, but that's not really an issue with modern newer AMD models, OSX versions, and mods.

Install Windows to internal HD. Have a partitioned ext HD and install Ubuntu to one partition and OS X to another. Yay, triple boot.

I would add the spoilers, but it's better if you do so yourself, so they're formatted precisely the way you want. exangel has left some good instruction here.
