I'm looking for the best card (For a relatively cheap price) for the 3DS. I am running the latest update (3.0.0.6U I think.). I am looking for something that runs well and works well while staying under about $30 if possible. Thanks. ^^

Edit: I'm gonna get the supercard, but does anyone know of a US/Canada based site which takes Paypal?

The r4i gold 3ds (from r4ids.cn) or the acekard 2i is recommended if you're going low-budget (they're generally under $20). The problem is that your 3ds is already on the latest fw: if that's the case, you won't be able to update your ak2i or r4i gold 3ds using your 3ds. I think the christmas bundle for the r4i gold 3ds is preupdated to support the latest 3ds fw, so I recommend going after the christmas one.

The DSTwo has extra features + it can update, even if it's blocked by the 3ds, so you won't have to worry about your 3ds' firmware (relatively high, usually above $35).

Acekard 2i is cheap ($15) and the second best flashcarts available.
If you are willing to spend $35-40, and want extra features, (eg. GBA emu) get a SuperCard DSTWO.

That has GBA emulation? Really, is there any other exclusives for it?
It also has Real-Time-Save (state saves) and the only flashcart that can run special homebrews. The gba/snes emulation isn't really that great, I hear. The UI is very feature rich compared to akaio or wood r4. It has a native media player to play back avi and rmvb (I think?).

SNES emu (better than the normal one), exclusive Homebrew and better emus. It's thanks to 32 MB OF built in RAM in the cart.

I can't confirm this, but I've heard that the rev. 9 christmas bundle carts are the ones having problems running Wood. Also, the file name of the special patch r4ids.cn team released to solve these problems is Patch_R4iGold3DS_xmas_NDSL.nds, note the "xmas" part. If his cart is affected, then he'll need to update it with the patch, and to do that, he'll require DS Lite. I'd stay away from these christmas bundles just to be sure.

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I was away from the scene for quite a while. :s

I'll make sure to remember that~

Is there a reseller which takes Paypal for the SuperCard?
Well all if not most online sites use Paypal for payment.
Check Shoptemp.net for a list.

Actually, most of the stores I've seen for these carts don't.

The best one would probably be Gamespree They are in Canada they're price is one of the cheapest (33 US Dollars) and accepts paypal. Downside is they're sold out on the Super Card DSTWO

I don't see why people keep suggesting non-DSTwo Flashcarts for 3DS...

I see DSTwo's ability to patch itself even on an updated 3DS a pretty fucking important feature to have. I mean if you got an Acecard, you'd have to have a 2nd DSi/3DS (with old firmware) or a DSLite or older just to patch the Acecard, should you accidentally upgrade your 3DS firmware via Game or eShop.

Otherwise you almost HAVE to stay informed about both Acecard and 3DS firmware updates and features they add so that you make sure you don't make a wrong update at a wrong time.

*snip
Perhaps because the OP asked for a low-budget ("under $30 if possible") flashcart, which, for the DSTwo, is out of the frame. After suggesting an ak2i or r4i gold 3ds (which fits within the OP's desires), I suggested the DSTwo for the exact same reason as you did, but I did state it can usually cost higher than the desired price.

Thats the thing... I see all flash carts as low budget because they all cost less than a single 3DS game. They are quite literally worth their weight in gold.

That is, if you're a pirate. ;o

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
