I recently downloaded a copy Xenosaga Episode I Der Wille zur Macht from the internet because I no longer have the game (let a friend borrow it but he's misplaced it). Since it's such a large file, I brought a Verbatim DL DVD disk (the purple colored disk cover one) and tried burning the image file onto the disk using Imgburn and my laptop's DVD Burner (Dell Vostro 1400) at about half the speed.

My PS2 is modded and I've been able to play games by burning them onto blank DVD disks, but this particular one didn't work out like the rest. When I load the burned Xenosaga disk onto the PS2 it asks for correct PS2 or PS CD.

Could I have some help on this?

PS: I apologize in advance if this topic is breaking any rule or policy. If that's the case, please issue a warning and close this topic.

if your ps2 is modded with a chip, it's possible that it's not compatible with dvd9. If you're using a swap method, then you need to use a real dvd9 ps2 game before swapping.

apparently, it's possible to convert some dvd9 games to dvd5, but I only found a method for MGS:

Since there were only a handful of DL games for PS2, I had avoided burning them and used original or a shrinked/multi disc version.

I do not know the exact solution but I would like to add the following
Dual layered disc requires a better condition laser to read both layers correctly.
Since DL DVDs are +R, I recommend you booktype them to DVD-ROM.
There is a program called Toxic DL Patcher (or something similiar) which is needed for chips that does not support DL.

Some chips like Matrix/Matrix Clone needs the settings changed to support DL disc. I advise you not to change the settings if you do not know which exact chip you have as some clone chips will corrupt if the settings are changed.

I'll try using Imgburn to bookset the DL DVD R+ into DVD ROM and see how it goes. If this does not work then I'll probably have to order the game, since DL disks aren't exactly cheap...

Which is easier? Having 3 disks with specific times to change disks or just one big Booktyped disk? I found the Undub version (thanks kupo3000) and would like to stick to having the game on a single disk.
