Hacking Do i need to partition External HDD

I dont really know if i need to partition the external drive for the wii , if i do what is the partition for?

Also if i format the drive to wbfs format will it be usable again?

Or do i partition some of the drive for wii games wbfs format and the rest to ntfs/fat 32 for normal use on a PC?

Format whole drive too Fat32 best compatibility with all homebrew and Usb launchers. And yes it is still usable after wbfs format you just reformat to windows Fat or Ntfs

A wbfs partition is not needed anymore. Just format the drive as one giant fat32 partition with a 32Kb cluster size and you will be fine.
A backup from a game is usually a .wbfs file. It's an iso file with all the garbage removed, so that it takes less space on the harddisk.

Download the modmii program. It can downlad a tool to format your harddisk as fat32. (Windows pc's don't like to partition a harddisk as fat32.
M$ prefers their own ntfs format.)

i tested my wii with 8gb SD card i just formated it on XP then wbfs formated and it works fine. Not sure if i Fat 32 formatted it though.

Nope, you don't wbfs format after. A partition can only be in one file format. fat, fat32, ntfs, ex2, ex3, wbfs, exfat....
wbfs can not be natively read by windows or linux. You need a special program to access such a partition.
fat32 is readable by windows and linux. Only Hermes Uniiloader can't work with wbfs files in fat32 partitions.

So just to get this clear - format to FAT32 -open wbfs manager -find drive -browse my iso's -copy iso's to drive. BOOOM or NOT

Nope, you only need a program like Wii Game Manager to convert your iso files into wbfs files.
Than you just browse to the folder with the wbfs file, copy it, and paste it to the usb harddisk wbfs folder. (Usually gameid.wbfs)

As windows can access a fat32 partition, you can simply copy the files using windows (or linux if you prefer).

FAT32 only has a limitation in file size. A file can be no bigger than 4.7 Gig.
For that reason, you should tell Wii Game Manager to split larger game wbfs files into pieces smaller than that limit upon conversion from iso.

There is absolutely no reason why windows drag and drop wouldn't work.

Or just use Wii Backup Manager, which will convert and copy your .iso to your external HDD, as well as name it and place it at the correct location.

I thought wbfs manager 3.0 converted the file to wbfs when i browse / find iso file / Add to drive HD it then gives you a blue loading bar ?

Still not sure if i have to wbfs format after i have FAT32 formated!

No you don't. A wbfs file is just a game file like an mp3 is a music file.

A wbfs partition is a partition on the harddisk that can only be accessed by the wii and some special programs. Using such a type of partition is acient history.
It's like wrapping 2 stones together to make fire. We don't use that method anymore.
If you have a tool that still requires it, put it in an archeologic game console hacking tool museum.

With my USB 8gb i formated it /. then i opened wbfs manager /, i loaded the usb, /then wbfs formated the usb/ browsed my iso's / got iso file / added file to USB on wbfs which converted it to wbfs / then played game and it worked tried with other games after deleting that game and they worked .

Do i repeat same steps with my 320gb hard drive when it arrives? THanks GUYS
