Third Evangelion film named, fourth film out in 2013

Studio Gainax is wishing us a happy new year by throwing us some hot new details regarding the Evangelion films. The fall 2012 release date for the third film still stands, though we now know that it will be titled 'Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo'. You can't ask for a better name than that!

Interestingly enough, we also have some details on the remaining film in the tetralogy. It will be released sometime in 2013, so it's nice to know everything will be wrapped up in under two years. Gainax have also launched a website for the final movie, but it's not about to spill any juicy information just yet. Definitely one to keep an eye on though.

Well there you have it, you are free to go back to recovering from your hangovers! Perhaps the thought of pirate Asuka will be enough to see you through it.

The intention is for the series to be four films, a tetralogy, with the first three films providing new scenes, settings, and characters as well as newly available 3D CG animation and the fourth presenting a completely new conclusion to the story. Another stated intention of the series is for it to be more accessible to non-fans than the original TV series and films were.[1]

First 3 are recaps, while the last is an alternate ending.

They are sequels. I called it from the FIRST scene in the first movie. As if what Kaworu says at the end of 2.0 wasn't clear enough.

I literally just finished watching the second movie, so this is good new, but I'm terribly confused. Mainly at the last two episode of the series, everything else is pretty understandable. I still can't exactly tell what rei and the other dude are.

Ep. 25 and 26 show what the complementariety is, or actually, how it happens for everyone.

EoE is the real ending. Ep 25 and 26 are a parallel universe (that's why EoE has ep 25' and 26') where Shinji decides to embrace complementariety. Instead, he refuses it in EoE.

Several hints give away that Rebuild is the follow up to the EoE continuity.
