First, sorry if this has been asked before, but I haven't figured out how to search on the mobile version of this site yet (probably glaringly obvious, but hey ho).
Is there any noticeable difference in speed/performance when using a microsd card + adapter as opposed to a memory stick pro duo?
Thanks in advance!

Everything depends on the adapter. If it's a genuine one with good reviews then you should have no problem at all. If it's a chinese knock-off, there may be some issues with plugins that run directly after the console starts (due to slower MS detection), other than that though, ISO's should be read at full speed.

Excellent, a pro duo 16gb would set me back about £25, whereas a decent microsd can be had for less than half of that. I was worried about performance issues, and potentially wasting money.
Thanks, man.

Ah yes, will definitely pay that little bit more for a genuine item. Always good advice to steer clear of any shady knock-offs!
Thanks!

If you want to expand your memory then I suggest the CR-5400, since it has two microSD slots. I have one and I'm really happy with it. Unfortunatelly this model is plagued with fakes, but it's relatively easy to spot the differences between an original one and a fake so there. Plus, it's dirt cheap.

If you don't want to risk it, go for a single-slot one.

Yeah, just been reading your comments in other threads and the cr5400 seems like a good way to go, I could stick one 16gb microsd in now, then when I inevitably fill that, chuck in another. What's the best way to spot a fake? eBay is my only option for such an item and it can be a minefield of crap at the best of times.

1. CR-5400 slots are NOT spring loaded.
2. The adapter is ALWAYS white, any other colour is a fake.
3. Empty slots should not have any metal parts visible.
4. An original CR-5400 will *always* allow you to format SD's in twin-mode. If yours will format the SD's but will inform you about an error, it's a fake chip.
5. Note the format the lot no. is written in. It's important, fakes have a different one.

EDIT: I just noticed that you're a U.K citizen. In that case, I recommend buying one at Amazon.co.uk - you can get them really cheap and in case you get a fake (unlikely, but still) you can always return the product and ask for a refund. With E-Bay it's touchy-dodgy sometimes.

I've got a genuine one and i wouldn't recommend it over a MSPD. Speed and reliability being the two main concerns....but as always i feel this way, foxi feels the other. Ultimately i hope we'd both agree that if you have the cash a PRO Duo is the best bet.

Duh! Obviously a PRO Duo is the best choice possible if you can afford it - the console was designed to use those, they're the most reliable medium out there for the PSP. If you are more interested in the capacity though and don't mind being those few nanoseconds behind in the process then I say "why not?".

Since we're on the subject, has anybody tried the 1-slot version of the PhotoFast adapter? I'm considering upgrading my card to 16 GB, and the price of 1x 16 GB Micro SD card is similar to 2x 8 GB cards. I doubt I'm going to upgrade past 16 GB any time soon, so the extra upgradability of the 2-slot card isn't a huge selling point.

I was thinking that not having the RAID shenanigans that the 2-slot adapter uses would presumably mean that you could use the SD card for other applications - and being able to use the same card for both the DS and the PSP is very appealing. Not to mention a fake 1-slot adapter might be less failure-prone than the 2-slot version.

The twin-slot version works without any "RAID shenanigans" when only 1 SD is inserted and said SD will be recognizable for other devices.

As far as the single-slot version is concerned, I'm guessing it's "same manufacturer = same difference", but never tried it myself personally.
