Hacking Considering buying a PSP

Since I've played basically every good DS game there is over and over again, I'm considering buying a PSP. Before I do so, I want to confirm some things:

• I've heard that all PSPs are fully CFW-able and hackable. Is this true?
• Are all models of PSP able to be CFW'd, regardless of current firmware version?
• Which model(s) of PSP are the best? Why / what makes these models better?
• I heard that, for those who are just going to pirate everything, the PSPgo is good. Is this true? Do the different controls make it harder to play games?

1) Yes, all hackable.
2) Yes, although newer firmwares (above 6.35) are all temporary, unless you have a fully hackable psp 1000/2000.
3) It all depends on what you want. psp 3000 has the brightest screen and is slimmer than the 1000, but has crappy buttons. psp 2000 is slimmer than the 1000 and depending on the motherboard, it is fully hackable. I personally like the psp 1000 for its bulkiness and buttons (which most people hate), but that's just me. The Go has the best ("clicky") buttons + it has 16gb internal.
4) Since it comes with 16gb internal flash memory, yes, it's a great deal for pirates who don't need the UMD ports. I actually don't own a Go, but I've heard the buttons are actually good. The Go doesn't have TV-output though (unless you buy a cradle for it).

2 - Yes.
3 - They have their differences, but an EARLY 2000 model (for being able to unbrick in case something goes terribly wrong or you decide to ignore all the warnings and fuck around in the NAND) or a Go (for it's portability and 16GB internal storage) are often considered the best for hacking for those reasons.
4 - Haven't used a Go that much, but if you don't plan on buying and UMDs can don't mind the size/shape differences it's fine.

What firmware comes with a new 3000? I had a friend who sent his PSP off for repairs, and recieved it with a firmware older than when he sent it off!

just bought my 3000 a month ago and it came with 6.39 out of the box. upgraded to 6.60 and installed pro b10 cfw. Psp games work great but i have no idea how to get ps1 games working (even when converted to eboots). Im not sure if 3000's can play em.

Oh i see others already answered. oh and steve i would never buy used psp,i assume its used cuz every new psp come with OFW.

it was new and it shipped with ofw 6.39 on it. I upgraded it to 6.60 then install the cfw pro b10. Wish i knew how to get ps1 games working but all in all its a great lil device.

It depends, but if it's anything higher than 6.35, update to 6.60 and hack with 6.60 pro-b10 (temporary). Temporary doesn't make much of a difference (only 4 or 5 seconds to navigate to/boot the hack).

Not even that, they can reboot hacked without a PC, they just don't boot hacked automatically.

That sounds like what one of my friends has on his 3000. Because of the 16GB of internal NAND, guess I'll go with the Go. Amazon has em for $175.

I got a PSP GO for Christmas and I'd recommend you get on ASAP.

The PSP Can run PSP, GBA, SNES (I think SNES) and PSX Games perfectly and if you were to buy a PSP GO you'd get 14 Gigabytes of internal storage which means you don't need any sort of Memory Card/Stick unless you want more space AND CFW is so simple that all you need to do is download a few files and plug your PSP into a computer.
