Hardware Zelda 3DS bumpers were NOT fixed... :(

Hi folks, got my LOZ 3DS for Christmas. Read online that the bumpers were made longer (They do indeed look a bit longer) and assumed it was safe to carry in my pocket that I wouldn't get any lines, and boy...was I wrong. Got home from being at family's house the other day and my 3DS has streaks on it yes the famous streaks that sit at the top of the screen only this time they don't run along the black area of the top portion of the screen only where the game plays and lights up.

So I would think in my opinion it's safe to say Nintendo has improved a LITTLE BIT on the bumpers but did not fix the issue completely, it also seemed like a bit more pressure was needed to put on this model of the 3DS than it is needed on other systems to get the lines to appear.

So from now on looks like I will be using a microfiber cloth between my system when I close it.

I would assume a screen protector will only protect it for so long until the screens eventually rub so much that it makes a scratch through it. After all it's just a clear strip of material.

Not much "rubbing" against the protectors if the 3DS is closed and in pocket. I would assume the 3DS hinges would prevent that.

Anyways I too have a Zelda 3DS and dont mind the streaks just so long theyre on the protector and not the screen itself. I placed protectors on my 3DS when I bought it, before even turning the system on. I So I expect my screens to be in pristine day1 conditions when I remove my protecting films.

How about people who dont put the 3DS in their pocket? Will they see lines? When I get a 3DS, it will only be placed in a protective hard case when not used. I assume this will mean that I will not get the lines. I will also likely wait for the 3DS lite.

It seems to be a case by case thing. I put my 3DS in my pocket, and i'll admit I don't treat it too well, and my screens are perfectly fine. No rubbing or whatever the problem is, I don't even use screen protectors.

I'll chip on on 'not putting it in your pocket'. Mine seems to leave the lines across the top screen just pretty much whenever closed. So even if I close it, put it in it's case and just leave it on a table I can often open it to play it to find the lines.

They've not turned to scratches yet, and thankfully I've bought some of the Hori screen protectors now so it'll never really be an issue.

Roll on the 3DS Lite with the redesign, I say!

I have the 3DS Zelda edition and I have no problem with bumpers :/

I haven't had this problem with my black 3DS, but even when I do take it out I don't cram it in my pants pockets. But anyway, seems to me that screen protectors would make it more likely for the top and bottom to make contact, since the screen protector decreases the gap between them. It might only be the thickness of a human hair, but maybe that's all it takes. I get grease smudge marks on the top half from my circle pad and sometimes the ends of the d-pad after a trip out with my 3DS, but never the straight lines on the top screen area that some people have gotten. The variance between my 3DS and one that does leave the marks must be very slim ... maybe as slim as a human hair. (hint)

I've been putting the foam separator in between the screens when I close it, just because I've heard of this problem. The thing is, I don't know what I'm worried about. Are they scratches, or just smudges that can be wiped away?

My 3DS is as well as new, since I treat it very well. I have a bag with a perfect pouch to put the 3DS, so, I always put it in there all the times, when I'm out from home.
Whenever I happen to close the 3DS too fast, I always check if I din't make any scratches or what.

smudges, most likely from oil on the touchscreen frame

I've had my Zelda 3DS for a few weeks but DON'T put it in my pocket because it is common sense not to after reading all this crap online. Not that I have ever made a practice of carrying around handhelds in my pocket because it's just asking for trouble. No lines, scratches, blemishes, or anything like that on mine so far.

Just a piece of advice: Don't carry handhelds in your pocket. Regardless of the fact that they are mobile, they may not really benefit from being kept in the pocket. For example, a simple way of getting your screens dirty/scratched is one grain of sand that manages to come in between the screens. Farewell for the 3DS screens.. Bags/backpacks/etc are excellent places to carry the stuff when you're not playing them. Also use protective cases.. So so easy to avoid most issues regarding pressure and possible problems that come with it.

If there are smudges, clean them.

If you think something is wrong with your console, contact Nintendo to get them to fix it for free. It's free and you get it fixed, don't see why this thread is so moany...

I also noticed light scratches appearing on the screen, so looks like the Zelda 3ds has the same problem. With gentle care and a screen protector, this problem would go away - especially if you clean it.

I use one of those silicone covers thingy and it adds a bit of thickness to the 3ds, preventing scratches.
It's quite a good fix as it protects the outside of your console as well. I hate the texture though.

Could just get a self adhesive foam pad and plonk in on the already built-in pads on the top screen (one of the left, one of the right) to add 1-2mm thickness that would contact..could also use a drop of colouring on the foam to make it black as well...
