Serious answer: The slide pad requires LOTS of space underneath it. If they placed a second one, the 3DS would be WAY larger.

Because they are aiming to more people and tried to stop piracy.

If I'm not wrong, all the Ads for XL have only old people,
DSi whas launched to kill piracy, Lite because DS Phat needed a redesign...

3DS doesn't need a redesign because it's already slim and compact.

Just because it happened in the past doesn't mean they'll do it for every single one of their consoles from now on. They can make plenty of money by selling limited-edition 3DS's, new colours, etc.

As far as I can tell, GameCube is the only one they didn't try to remake.
It'd be inconsistent for them NOT to make a new 3DS.

I happen to agree that the 3DS doesn't need a new circle pad. It has a touch screen. Plus, I'm fine with using another button to use the circle pad to control a camera.

I think its interesting that no one has mentioned the addition of the L2 and R2 buttons that the expansion is to add on to the 3DS. Not only would the system have to somehow make space for the second analogue stick, but they'd definitely have to make at least part of the 3DS thicker for the sake of a comfortable button for R2 and one for L2. To add all the things on the 3DS that the new shell thing adds into the current 3DS would inevitably change its shape, and likely would become less of a handheld that you can carry around in your pocket but rather something you can only play at home.

Knowing Nintendo they would put the slider pad underneath the buttons, that's what they do with the gamecube.
Microsoft do it aswell.
Anyway i think that the Slider Pad add-on looks much more comfortable than any revision would be.
Because the position of the Slider Pas is good and the thickness is good enough to add an LZ and RZ underneath the L and R.
Whereas a revision would have to have them placed beside the L and R buttons.
