3D is stupid. I bet after 15 years or so they will come out with a study saying 3D has side effects. Everyone thought cellphones and microwaves were safe.

I think if there is a "Lite" version, it will not be in the "Size" of the 3DS but a matter of weight. We all know with tech circuit boards get smaller and lighter over time. This will also will need less battery power. I think the promo will kinda be like the GBA SP with the brighter screen deal they had a few years back.

If you ask me, what they really need is a 3DS XL!
Better battery, big screens, room for the second slider pad and shoulder buttons.

But when I think about it, the 3D effect may not work as intended if the screen was considerably bigger.

agreed though they could add better motion sensors and motion sensing games also a 3G option so that it becomes a better competition

Battery isn't important to you? The Vita and the 3DS have the same battery life.

Battery isn't important, so long as the thing can play games for a couple of hours. I'm not a forgetful idiot who forgets to charge my stuff every night.
I'm with you, you forget to charge it when you're not using it you don't deserve to have a handheld at all, and in regards to the other guy, I think you'll find that the 3DS's is better. You get more hours out of it.

Some of us take our handhelds on 12 hour flights, or all night train journeys. Between gaming and watching videos, a large battery can be really handy for releavng boredom

Troll dick. 3D is rather neat and ya gotta be a big pussy if it gives you a headache. Some games and videos could have more depth though. After playing in 3D, 2D is so flat and yesterday.
He really doesn't have to be a troll dick tho...

Screw 3g. >.>

I didn't it worth it for any company to make that version.

Wonder if the psv was announce with 3D, would it give some a complete opposite view on 3D.
I'm not sure, but the 3DS battery may be slightly better than the psv.

Anyway 3D + XL screen = Awesome. :P

No bigger than the XL tho. D:

Some of you guys basically just want a NV (Nintendo Vita), but why do you want the exact same thing?...

A 3DS redesign will obviously come eventually, but I have a feeling it will be like PSP1000-2000. It may add new features and improve older ones, but the size will remain about the same.

Can you imagine trying to play a game on a gameboy micro sized 3DS?

What? Lite?? Isn't the 3DS small enough, too small that you can't even appreciate the games' details

I want a XL version of it wih the Slide Pad build in

Also the sound SUUCKS!!

I agree with you, the 3DS is fundamentally flawed by design. There is the lack of a built-in second analog stick, the screen-scratching issue, the sub-par 3D effect and battery life, the low-quality cameras just to name a few problems. It's pretty surprising that Nintendo didn't realize that the 3DS was plagued by these issues during development. I would like to think that their engineers aren't that horribly incompetent. I wouldn't be surprised if they purposely skimped on some features so that they would have things to improve on in a redesign, though.

Hardware issues aren't the only thing wrong with the system, there are a number of problems with the software itself. The whole friend-code system is archaic and shouldn't have been there to begin with especially considering the WiiU won't have it, the eShop just plain sucks, the interface lacks polish (needs folders) and the friend list lacks any sort of messaging system rendering it useless. While all of these issues with the firmware itself can be fixed with a system update, I doubt this will happen knowing Nintendo but I would love to be proven wrong.

And to be honest, I doubt many people would have paid attention to the majority of these flaws if the 3DS had a solid launched. During E3, I was one of the many people who were genuinely excited for the system. If it was launched properly, I have no doubt that it would have been a hit. Sadly it was botched with a horrible launch-library, the fact that the eShop and internet browser weren't present at launch and the utter absence of proper advertising that helped the average consumer realize that it wasn't just another DS redesign. Nintendo should have waited until autumn or the holiday season before releasing the system. By then they would have been able to have some great games ready by both first and third party developers and everything (eShop, Nintendo Video, internet browser, etc.) else finished and ready for release.

This doesn't go without saying that I do think that the system will be a hit. The DS was about the same sales-wise as the 3DS until the DS Lite launched. I do think that the system needs a redesign, though. Certainly not now as that wouldn't be feasible and would be pretty much a kick in the face to existing customers but rather sometime in the near-future. The 3DS does have a lot going for it, there are a lot of great games coming for it and it's pretty damn powerful. If Nintendo manages to fix the flaws mentioned above in a redesign, the system should become a stellar hit.

I won't say that the 3DS is a complete wtf design flaw. Look at it, the internals, there is no more space where they can add in a second stick. Even if the stick were added, the positioning and others, how would it feel? Yes, the cradle I admit looks like utter bullshit but at least it provides better hold for a second stick.

Stereoscopic 3D is still 'new' in the mobile devices, it can never be perfect. The 3DS can be said to be the first actual commercial gaming product which utilizes this tech. Some may say its dumb, yes, but remember it is still 'new'.

Like I said, I won't expect a 3DS Lite. It'll either be a 3DS S (lol) or a 3DS XL. The 3DS possibly cannot get any thinner, it packs much more than the DS Lite but it's almost the same size. The 3DS now is actually much more powerful than any other handheld Nintendo has ever released (if rumors are to be believed - the 3DS has a dual-core processor). The thing is just the unexpectedly bad launch window (not only games but the online features weren't available at launch) which just proves that the 3DS software is simply rushed like crap. Still, I believe the hardware is there.

Thinner devices are tending to bend a lot quicker which result in broken connections.
Nintendo shouldn't make the next possible 3DS any thinner at all.

The design of the 3DS is good imo.
It does have its flaws like the borders of the touchscreen touching the upper screens resulting in tiny scratches and the power button not always responding properly when booting the handheld.

The 3DS i already built very strongly. Making it thinner will just increase the danger of the system getting damaged.

What I want to see with the next 3DS is a matte design instead of glossy.
And the slider pad attatchment built in, and more size, battery life and better 'sweet spot'.
Maybe they will call the next 3DS the 3DSU, cause it can be used as a WiiU controller.

Ready for a heavily biased post :P ?:

I do not think there should be a 3DS lite. If you have not seen a size comparison, the 3DS is about the same size as a DS lite. Making it any smaller would be ridiculous and a bad move by Nintendo.

What I believe they need to do(or rather what I want them to do) is go back to the drawing board. I believe I talked about a revision before. Basically what I said is that I want a 3DS that functions like the Kyocera Echo. And of course the 3D screens have much room for improvement in terms of energy efficiency and the narrow "Box of Focus"(lol MR. COW :P ) this is also how I think they could fix the battery life problem.

Back then I did not even think about adding a second slide pad because I thought the very idea was outlandish and that Nintendo couldn't do something like that after they already mapped out a design for the 3DS. But now that they've announced the slide pad peripheral, There is a chance that Nintendo could build this into their next revision if enough game designers want to have support for it.

tl;dr: 3DS revision needs Kyocera Echo style folding mechanism, gorilla glass, better 3D screens, & slide pad.

PS: I like this color and I think it looks nice for black theme users. :)

Gorilla glass? How much do you want this thing to cost? It already a clam design, it is overkill. b4itscratchesitself I personally never had this problem and I didn't understand how it happening to others. Maybe it over exaggerated and most who didn't even have that problem are just jumping on the train.

The 3D is awesome. Tbh, you didn't really lose the 3D effect as long as it stays horizontal(well at least it hard to). No wait, hear me out. The 3D effect just changes. I wonder if a game can counter that change with the camera or motion controls. Detect movement then move the game visuals to match it. That said, I have no problem staying in the 3D "spot".

How is not having a second analog stick and low-quality cameras a flaw?
3DS was already pack to the fullest.
I have not once play a game on 3DS and be like "this really needs a second slide pad". The games played fine and imo with any 3DS game, I probably wouldn't say that.

Cameras do want they are meant to do. The do their job. Do they really need to be hd? Would that really increase the fun for you and are you really willing
to pay for it. Also, wouldn't hd cameras drain the battery more than the certain ones when in use?
Ok, maybe they could up the cameras a bit. Even then, that more of a want than a need. Not really a flaw.

The battery life is something companies have to work with, They have no control over that,

Any firmware/software issues or add-ons can be done by update.

The slide pad, if we are really lucky, this could mean wii u streaming to the 3DS. Which could even be in 3D.
That would make me more positive about it.

I really do feel, it either they wanted the 3DS to be like wii u controller and it might not be built in a new 3DS or
that the devs push them to make it.

Maybe both.

I know how they could make it a DS lite version. They could remove the 3d screen and incorporate it into the touch screen making one touch sensitive 3d screen. Then they could make it longer and put two circle pads on it with the circle pads under the cross pad and buttons. Then they could put a touch sensitive back on it and move the speakers down close to the top of the touch screen. They could then make it cheaper by using only one color black and then they could have someone else make it for them say like Sony. Then they could just call it a PSP.

Or just forget it all and leave it they way it is right now cause it is just fine the way it is! I LOVE my 3DS!

The battery life is something companies have to work with, They have no control over that,
They could have designed the device around a physically larger battery. For example.
That what said, work with batteries. They can't change the battery sizes and control battery power. They aren't a battery company, so they have to wait on others.

Doing that would make the 3DS bigger and people would complain. The can't please everyone, but they try to do a size that most can deal.
That (I believe) is the best battery they can find for that size.

PS: In a rush...
