I decided to make a new thread that gives a better view on the best homebrew around. There are few lists of good homebrew and most of them are outdated. The current essentials lists is one of them since it's old, and it only reflects Guild's own preferences. This one aims to be like the other essentials lists, in which everyone can vote and add entries.

Let's make this new one together.

Guidelines
  • This is the homebrew section, so let's try to keep back-up loaders and that sort of stuff for its own section. System utilities like DOP-Mii or MMM are welcome thought.
  • If you want to add new entries, don't edit your post. It's probable that I don't see it, so instead make a new one.
  • When adding new entries, please try to follow this format:

    Category
+1. Name of the application. (Brief Description). Link to the coder's/google code/wiibrew page.

It's just Wii Mod with some cosmetic changes.

BLIND automatically forces NTSC Output so it can be run on almost any TV and is a lot more user-friendly.

Either way, it still is better than WiiMod.

Forcing NTSC mode means changing one line of code, not rebranding the entire app. If you've got a TV that can't display NTSC (I live in a PAL country so don't tell me all TVs can handle NTSC) it's not better at all - it's useless.

Added the votes so far.
And btw, if anyone doesn't like an application he's not forced to use it

there's no need to bash it.

Woot! Something of mine was mentioned!

It was more than one line of code, lol. Besides, I added several more features to it.

PS: He said "almost any TV".

Edit: Not voting as my vote wouldn't be seen as unbiased.

Games
+1 Newo Shooter (science!)
+1 Masteroids http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Masteroids
+1 BoltThrower http://wiibrew.org/wiki/BoltThrower

Emulators:
+1 Snes9xGx

Apps;
WiiMC WiiMC (Wii Media Centre) is an open source media player for the Nintendo Wii.

Updated the main posts, as there is still some interest in this.

Still keeping out usb loader for the reason described in the guidelines.

Might consider replacing Wiirtual Boy with WiiMednafen instead, since the the VB support is apparently better.

Anyways:

Emulators
+1 Snes9x GX
+1 VBA GX
+1 Gen Plus GX
+1 WiiSX

Utilities
+1 USB Loader GX
+1 NeoGamma
+1 Savegame Manager GX

Does OpenBOR count as game, emulator, or utility? A +1 for that too.

The main app I use is WiiMod so +1 for it; the 2nd app I use is nswitch for neek2o and postloader3 but I'm not sure if these are accepted cause I do not know what catagory they would fall unders so in summary:
WiiMod +1
nswitch +1
PostLoader3 +1

I don't see how USB loaders aren't homebrew, yet emulators are. So does neogamma count as homebrew (depending how you look at it, it's emulating a gamecube) or as an USB loader? And what about swiss?

Anyway...from what I've used:

Games:
Descent
Piero's wiicross
wiidoom
heretic
hexen
Wiix-ball

Emulators:
neek2o (it's emulating a wii on a wii :P )
mighty channels
wiisx
wii64
SDL MAME wii
scummVM
snes9xgx
fceultra gx
viirtual boy (may have to check out that wiimednafen thing)
vbagx
genesis plus gx (note that it now emulates master system games as well)

Utilities:
HBC/bootmii (duh!)
POSTLOADER3!!!
MODMII!!!
wiixplorer
Settings editor
wiiMC
rawksd
priiloader
MMM (I prefer this over wiimod and dop-IOS, but it's mostly because it works under 'neek)
savegame manager gx
syscheck

what cIOS do yo have on your neek nand? I have the latest public beta of d2x v7d[249base56] Wii mod boots with an error but if you keep pressing B it will load after displaying the error 3 times and works fine after that. I have received a code dump but it was only when using the Any Title Deleter function of WiiMod in neek.
