I'm looking to play a few Wii games online with a friend (Puyo Puyo 7 (EN TL) and Mario Kart Wii) via Wiimmfi. I'm working with a Wii U, and they've got a Wii.

I can't find a lot of info online about how to set this up. With the pre-patched roms, do I just set up Wiimmfi on the vWIi? Ideally I'd like to run these games from the Wii U home menu via injects, but some info I've found says that's simply impossible?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

you're going to run into 2 sticking points:

if you want it from the wii u menu, you probably have to patch the game to use wiimmfi, then inject the patched version into a wii u installable.

Also, before you get too far, might want to go ahead and test ANY wifi on your vwii side. It is a bit picky about connecting to new routers.

But yeah i think if thats not an issue, its doable.

If you want ez mode, the usb launchers that you can launch once inside vwii will patch the popular games on the fly so no patching needed.

EDIT: ACTUALLY, it looks like for a few popular games, its even easier, no patching necessary: https://wiimmfi.de/patcher/dnspatch

No problem patching the games, Puyo’s translation patch comes with wiimmfi compatibility and it seems easy to apply the same to MK Wii.

So, if I’m understanding, the method to try is as follows:

Make sure the vWii connects to wifi

Set up Wiimmfi on the vWii

Patch the games, then inject them

Play

I was hoping for a simple answer like this! Hopefully this works, I’ll report back.

I saw something about the inject you use as the base has to have the proper webcode, and just that there were bases confirmed to not, like mario kart wii, which implied some bases did have the working netcode. but ive now seen it noted that maybe no such base exists, as the VC you'd use as base were all intentionally sandboxed by N. so I dunno, conflicting things, but dont see any confirmation that anyone ever got wii u menu one to work the way you want it to.
If it works after all please confirm.

Next best thing (which you can find in some thread here) is a wuhb for wii u side and a channel wad for vwii side, that combined will forward you from wii u menu straight into your sd cards usb loader.

I have Puyo Puyo 7 loading through a Wii U inject now, and loading into Wiimmfi. I haven’t tested an actual battle yet, but I’m able to see global scores so I’m considering it a win.

Mario Kart is giving me trouble though… when I try to load into Wiimmfi mode, it throws error code 20100. Looking it up, this error code seems to usually be related to internet settings (which seem to be working, based on PP7) or a game incompatibility (which seems unlikely since Wiimmfi is built for MK Wii).

I’ve tried DNS settings 95.217.77.181 and 95.217.77.151

Any ideas? I’m happy to have gotten PP7 to work through the Wii U menu, at least.

whatever base you injected puyo puyo into, are you injecting MKWii into the same one? or a MKWii base?

I'm not quite sure what you mean, I injected Puyo and MKWii onto my SD Card using WUP Installer GX under the homebrew menu.

I use TeconMoon's WiiVC Injector if that's helpful.

they are injected into a game when you use Teconmoon's injector. I'm guessing since you don't know what I mean, you used the same base for each...which would mean the base isnt the issue

I might say go ahead and confirm you can get a puyo puyo match to work. That way there's no question that one is working and one isnt. I don't know the game, but some games populate fake filler leaderboards when they don't actually have a connection.

Hmm, then yeah. I used TeconMoon's for both.

I'm seeing online some people saying to wait a week and then you'll be let on to the MKWii servers, but others saying that official consoles don't have to wait that week anymore.

Another thing I'm seeing is maybe setting Secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8? Based on this (https://en-americas-support.nintend...~/how-to-manually-enter-dns-settings-on-wii-u) I set my secondary to 8.8.8.4
(Honestly I'm the most lost about the DNS settings, I have Primary DNS set to 95.217.77.181 and I'm like 85% sure that's correct haha)

I think the important bit is that Wiimmfi needs to be set up on the vWii side since you're playing Wii games. Once you're booted into vWii, you should be able to use the usual Wii methods and connect with your friend on a normal Wii.

The Wii U menu inject idea is where things get awkward. Wii VC injects do not work the same way as running the game directly in vWii, and online support with Wiimmfi is likely to be a problem. If the main goal is playing online, I'd stick with launching the games from vWii rather than trying to force them onto the Wii U menu.

I got a puyo puyo match working between the Wii U and Dolphin just now! So yeah something is up with MKWii.

Yeah, if this ends up not working I'll consider the vWii as an alternative. Out of the convenience of it though, I'd love if I could get them to work through the Wii U menu. Since I've got one working, it feels likely that I *can* get them both to work, and I'm just missing something.
