Source Engine 2017 - Nintendo Switch
based on nillusr's project

SENX is a complete, native port of the Source Engine for the Nintendo Switch.

Based on the project by nillusr and his work on the well-known Android port, including his adjustments and optimizations, I ported the raw engine to the Switch. SENX itself is a passion project. I'm pretty much burned out on... no wait — I'm a huge Half-Life fan; it shaped my youth and still shapes who I am today, and it's always brought me a lot of joy.

I've been working on this project for several months now, if not years. Today is a very exciting day for me — I've been looking forward to sharing this project with you all for a long time, but I'm quite a perfectionist, which is why it took a while. SENX is a fusion of nillusr's Android version, the PC version, and a few small bits from the 360 version.

And here we're only talking about the engine itself.

  • senx_engine – the core engine that powers the following games: cstrike, dod, episodic, hl1, hl1mp, hl2, hl2mp, lostcoast, portal
  • senx – the launcher, used to start your games and download them via the built-in Steam depot downloader
  • Steam depot downloader – downloads your games from your Steam account directly to "/Downloads"
  • game_files – game logic for each title, packaged as *.nro (client & server)
  • Multi-language support – for both the launcher and all supported games

  • Language of the SteamDepot Downloader is only German (patch in progress)
  • Videosettings Change is temporary (fixed in Update)
  • Textinput on Console forget the first char (fixed in Update)
  • Weapons sometimes glitch (flickering) => temporary fix is "cl_threaded_bone_setup 0" (fixed in update)
  • The game sometimes hangs/stutters, because Source was originally designed as single-threaded — overclocking would help here, since I'll likely need to do more work to fully fix this. That said, performance improves over time as shaders get cached correctly.

  1. Download SENX from the Download area
  2. Extract the ZIP and put the "SENX" folder on your SD card under "sd:/switch/"
  3. Before you start, make sure you're not in applet mode — the game needs some resources
  4. Add senx.nro (!!! not senx_engine.nro !!!) as a forwarder to your HomeScreen
  5. Launch SENX, add your Steam account, and play your favorites (alternatively, add your games under SENX/Games/*)

I’m on vacation next week. If I can get a build working by then that at least launches both single-player and multiplayer, I’ll probably upload it.

The only thing I’m unsure about is whether that could be an issue, since it’s based on a leaked version of the engine. From what I understand, though, Valve has been tolerating it.

Will csgo and left 4 dead work?
In theory yes. But for this Games i need the source Code of the Game logic for any Game. I know there is a leak of csgo so i can Put add this files to my build for native "bin" files. Than you can Play this Games.

I will Release an Update for Performance and Bug fixes and than i add some more Game logic files.

This engine is based of the leak of 2018 but without tf2, because the Game files are filled with a lot of new logic. My plan is a stable Version, than i add more Games.

A second Idea was to add box64 (win Emulation) for load DLL files as an Plugin. Than you can Play any Game or Mod too. But thats a lot of Work.

I think you must wait a little Bit, before you can Play These Games. But i have it in my Plans.

At this time i Support the following Games:
- Half-Life 1
- Half-Life 1: Deathmatch
- Half-Life 2
- Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
- Half-Life 2: Lostcoast (use the "episodic" bin files)
- Half-Life 2: Episode One
- Half-Life 2: Episode Two
- Portal
- Portal 2 (Not tested)
- Counter-Strike: source
- Day of Defeat: source

- Any Mod for any of this Games without extra Game logic ("no bin/DLL files")
