The bios file appear in the game list since v1.2.1.

Here's what I tried so far (with an overclocked V1 Switch). I only take gameplay segments into account (I don't care about fps drops or glitches in movies or menus, the speed % is just my visual estimation) :

games running at 90-100% speed :
- Hokuto No Ken Shinpan No Sousousei Kengou Retsuden (J)
- Hyper Street Fighter 2 (AI Nerf v1.0)
- Melty Blood - Actress Again (Japan)
- NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (Europe Australia)
- Sengoku Basara X (Japan)
- SNK vs. Capcom - SVC Chaos (Europe)
- Spectral vs. Generation (Europe) (Enable Hidden Characters v1.0)

70-90% speed :
- Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 Collector's Edition (E)
- Super Dragon Ball Z (U)(UNDUB v1.0)
- Tekken 5 (Unlock Jinpachi Mishima v1.0)
- Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution (Europe)
- Mega Man X7 (Ns Edition v1.5.2)
- Mega Man X8 (U)(Undub)

around 50% speed or below :
- One Piece - Grand Battle Rush (Japan) : around 30-40%
- Saint Seiya The Sanctuary and The Hades (Europe) : ~50%
- Dawn Of Mana (Undub) : ~50%
- Soulcalibur 3 Arcade Edition Deluxe v1.21) : ~50%
- Street Fighter Alpha Anthology (Europe) : glitchy and slow (~40%)
- Street Fighter EX3 (Europe) : very slow ~30% speed I guess
- Tekken Tag Tournament (Europe) (v1.00) : from memory it runs worse than Tekken 5, around 50%
- Ys V Lost Kefin Kingdom Of Sand (English v1.0) : fps is dependant on how large the area is, it can get very slow

- Ultimate Mortal Kombat Deception (v7.0) : very slow, around 30% speed, the first save took an eternity.

other :
- Battle Stadium D.O.N (Japan) (T-En by Lord Izen v20230906) (Japanese voices) : doesn't boot, acts like a PS2 without a disk.
- Namco x Capcom (Japan) (T-En by TransGen Final Version A) : doesn't boot, acts like a PS2 without a disk

What settings are you using to get Virtua Fighter IV running so smoothly,I'm using a V1 & can't get it to go above sub 15-20 FPS?

Really interesting project. I tested NetherSX2 on my V1 Switch and compared it with my NVIDIA Shield TV Pro.

What surprised me is that, in some games, the Switch version performed better in my testing than the Shield. For example, with God Hand, the Switch was already very close to full speed at native resolution, and with Sys-CLK overclocking it improved even further. What surprised me most was that even at 720p resolution the Switch build was still performing better than my Shield setup.

Since the Shield uses a Tegra X1+ and runs Android natively, I was curious what makes this Switch implementation perform so well. Is it mainly the Vulkan path, the loader/wrapper approach, different driver behavior, or optimizations specific to this port?

I'm not suggesting an Android port or anything (If possible that would be awesome) — I'm just curious about the technical reasons why this Switch build can sometimes outperform a native Android device.

EDIT

I tested this using NetherSX2_nx 1.2.0.

After updating to NetherSX2_nx 1.2.1, I noticed that God Hand became unstable. During certain cutscenes, the game would crash and return me to the Switch home menu.

For this comparison, the performance results mentioned above are from NetherSX2_nx 1.2.0.
If god hand becomes playable on the switch my soul will be nagaa's

I was thinking about archiving my Lossless.dll since i couldnt find any internet archive for 3.1 or 3.2 frame gen.
Im half and half on archiving it. But i had good luck with it on Silent Hill 2 and Deus Ex The Conspiracy.

Just putting it out there, based on my testing -

1. KOF 02 UM is perfect, no hiccups nothing. Perfect port. For me, more or less does it for me since Switch lacks good old KOF ports with arranged music. Very playable (didn't even notice any drops in frame drops during character selection) - do note I am using the translated ISO.

2. KOF 98 UM runs Ok, occasional slowdown when things explode with a bunch of sprites. So, I don't think it's playable (since it lacks the speed of KOF 02, these games are all about speed). Some might be able to tolerate specific slowdowns to about 20 frames. With LSFG enabled (if you turn on frame generation), picture will get stuck at a single frame.

3. KOF 94 Rebout - Runs at about > 30 fps, until you fire a projectile and then it slows until that projectile is omitted from screen, other than that, playable.

4. WWE Smackdown Here Comes the Pain, videos about 10-15fps - in game, 15-20... will drop to 10. With LSFG enabled (if you turn on frame generation), picture will get stuck at a single frame. Not playable.

5. Shadow Hearts 1 - Slow, about 10-20 fps, then will randomly crash (new NetherSX2) - I also tried the older NetherSX version, also crashes (and is pretty slow). Not playable.

6. Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Perfect, some selection screen slowdown but runs perfectly. Plus compression costs just about 200MB of storage space - even better than the official Switch port!

7. Capcom vs SNK 2 2001 - Perfect, 30fps standard. Compression costs just over 200MB. Storage cost is even lower than official ports.

8. KOF XI - runs well, menu screen/selection screen drops by a couple of frames, but generally 30 fps - playable.

9. NeoGeo Battle Collisium - As suggested by the above gentleman, playable, menu/character selection minor frame drops, but on the whole 30 fps consistently - playable. I didn't want to list this here as it is already done above - but since I downloaded it and added to my library... might as well list it.

Also, I put in the Lossless dll in the folder, tried to enable frame generation - in games, it will just get stuck on a single frame. Not sure if this is working, will need more work. I disabled it generally because games began crashing. Ultimately, I had to disable lossless frame generation because games would just crash. Even good ones.

I don't think heavy 3D games will be playable - but the above kinda addresses a lot of Switch shortcomings for me, MvC2 / KOF 02 UM / CvSNK2 - I can remove the heavy Capcom collections (about 3-4 gb each) from my SD card, since I already have retroarch, I don't need any of those. Plus the Gzip compressed copies of CvSNK2 is about 200MB! Same for MvC2 - 200MB+. Compare that with an actual Switch port of 3-5GB each. Certainly worth considering replacing if you're only offline like me.

Hope this is helpful. I was also wondering if someone could advise on how to update covers? I tried game codes as jpg/png files couldn't do so - and also tried file names without extensions... also couldn't do so.

Thank you Naga for the port - use AI (if you're not already using it) to try and refine whatever open code you've got access to. Though given AetherSX2 was closed, not sure how much of it can be optimized, not sure if someone has tried to reverse engineer that apk... but well, this is excellent progress! I am just happy to see KOF (98 was also something I wanted, but you can't have everything!) ports. The access to PS2 libraries is a big big deal for Switch owners.

No need to invest in one of those stupid Chinese devices for PS2 ports!

I played here comes the pain and it definitely has that slow down that you're talking about but when I enabled lossless it didn't just freeze on a single frame I think something is wrong with your lossless dll

Here the counter shaterred soldier ran perfectly with widescreen, 2x resolution. However, overclocking above 2k on the cpu. I hope they optimize and make this emulator lighter. This game alone is worth having the emulator on the switch because I love this type of game to play on the portable.

The temperature became very high. 57cº In a short time of use.

You mean this game right?

Bro, do you mind testing the game at native resolution with these OC settings ( using the unpatched core)
  • CPU: 1785
  • GPU: 921
  • RAM: 1600

The 2x resolution in this game made no difference here, but I tested it with the native and with these settings and the game averages 50~53 fps.

It looks perfect if you use 2200+ on the cpu. Funny that it doesn't weigh anything on the gpu, I can lower it to 400 clock and it makes no difference, it uses on average 10% of the gpu. Is it possible to share the processing with the gpu? I am a layman in these matters and I am sorry if it is a foolish doubt.

The biggest positive impact on performance was disabling the widescreen, still maintaining the average of 50fps, However, it oscillates more upwards.

I also tried using lossless, but here the emulator just crashes
