Sorry for likely being painfully uninformed, but Im still curious. How come userland is not seen as particularly useful? Does it just not have the potential to be turned into any kind of homebrew? Because I remember on 3ds and Wii U there exploits that, while not allowing true cfw, did at least allow some form of homebrew to be launched, like homebrew games/emulators/etc. Was that not userland? It wouldnt be cfw sure, but I would personally think that would be some kind of major progress. Or is userland on the Switch 2 just that locked down to be able to do anything similar? Thanks!

I think it's also that the Switch/2 runs pretty much everything sandboxed, which wasn't the case of the 3DS/WiiU

AFAIk Userland lacks pretty much all useful privileges to the system. There was a Userland exploit I think 8 hours after release. It's largely a nothingburger.

Edit: Apparently the original method was a Userland ROP exploit that did nothing on its own. This is slightly more promising...

...slightly

Good initiatives and ideas have been born at gbatemp but it's almost never the source of the info or the developing channel nowadays.
You just made me sad. I remember when this was the case back during the NDS/DSi days.

That's an interesting development. It'll be worth waiting for more technical details and independent verification before drawing conclusions about what the exploit can actually do or whether it will lead to anything practical for everyday users.

With Sciresm getting taken out by deep state actors, nothing is going to come from this.
Not true. He stepped down from working on Atmosphere because he's got a family and more important life things than focus on a dead console. Nintendo ninjas weren't after him if that's what you're trying to say.

Not quite in my opinion.
The fact genzine is working on the Switch 2, so a person that made the current PS4 and PS5 scene actively on fire (and that person also is still holding out on one private exploit for the current firmware) gives us some hope
I see it more as a proof-of-concept since there hasn't been any homebrew to run on the Switch 2 yet, or in the case of allowing piracy, but that might change for the future I hope.

I mean... most of us are still here but the action is now on discord because it's closed by default and invitation based, so it's kind of perfect to share delicate info with very low to no impact.

whenever i see posts like this floating on Reddit or Youtube about this kinda thing i immediately cross reference GBAtemp's news section to see if it holds any weight...

We have yet to reach that point, and considering things, i doubt we will any time soon...but i honestly don't care that much at the moment personally.
