Hellloooo all,

I made switchdb.tasta.space because I kept Googling whether games run well on Switch 2 and got nothing consistent.

The site lets anyone submit a short compatibility report (FPS, resolution, docked or handheld, performance notes) without signing up, and games get a tier rating per platform: Diamond, Gold, Silver, Copper, Rusty. Switch 1 and Switch 2 are tracked separately so you can see backward compatibility quality at a glance. The form takes about 30 seconds.

Sharing here because the site complements the kind of community knowledge GBAtemp already produces. Thought folks here might enjoy it and maybe contribute reports for the games they have tested.

Quick facts
  • 1800+ games imported with Metacritic scores
  • Switch 1 and Switch 2 tracked separately
  • Six languages with auto detection (en, ro, es, fr, de, it)
  • No signup, no email, no ads, no tracking
  • Anonymous reports

It is free. I am the only one running it. (There are affiliate links for shops, if you click through.)

Very open to feedback and happy to answer any questions.

Mersi! :switch2:

It does seem pretty neat but the website seems pretty laggy to me, could be due to my potato work computer, this happens on the main page, from the game covers to even typing.

When I get home I'll check and probably submit some reports for my Switch 2 games (or Switch games on Switch 2).

Thank you for your feedback! There is a button up top to disable all blur and heavy animations.
Let me know if that helps with the performance, please.

I'll try to work on some performance improvements anyway, but that will take some time.

I think querystring support would be neat, so one can call;

?game=gamename&hardware=sw1/sw2 to then return a lil png badge (diamond, gold etc) and if the button is clicked it will lead to the page of the game.

I would even be very tempted to add it to my lil game list thingy. :P

Cool idea.

Wonder how fork/repoable this site is.
Codeberg or Gitea might be a good place.

That's a nice idea. I'm working on some embeds right now and I'll try to add this one too! Thank you!

I am pretty sure I spotted an error. Stardew Valley is listed with paid SW2 patch but the patch is free :)

I added the embed feature with options for 16x16px and 32x32px icons in there. Give it a try and please let me know if this is what you were looking for or if you have any other feedback on it.

It can be found in the Share section on any game page!

Excellent :)

Pretty much how imagined it

Gotta see if I can implement it soonish.
(I wonder how much the Dekudeals names and such are matched)

Hi, I was checking Silksong and I think there is gonna be few more of those. Both hollow knight games also have free upgrades.

I also checked few other random games where I expected devs to be cool and release it for free and found some more:
  • DAVE THE DIVER
  • Subnautica: Below Zero
  • Subnautica
  • Cozy Grove
  • Factorio
  • Core Keeper
  • Hades - DON'T have upgrade pack at all (as far as I know)
  • Civilization VI - DON'T have upgrade pack at all (as far as I know)

Not a bad site, has quite a bit to it which is good. I wish some things were more up to date. Bloodstained was a poor quality card based release, but it did get a patch many months later that made it run smooth and sharpened up the fuzzy visuals to be on par with the others but your site doesn't mention that and gives it a poor rating.

I also have the 3 Valis games bundles from LRG on there, they're not in your database, so it seems some stuff is missing still.

Any website that we can check what framerate NS1 games have on NS2?

I thought Witcher 3 and Astral Chain would have a 60fps patch on the Switch 2... Nope. Nothing (yet).

I couldn't find information if a game can run completely offline or with a lower FW version.

If not present, it could be a great addition!

Well, my site, like ProtonDB, is based on user reviews. If users have a different experience, they (you) can leave a performance review and the status will change. It's the whole point. If you see a game that had a patch, you can leave a report.
No account needed. Takes less time than leaving a comment here :)

A community means helping too, not just looking for help.

It is not fair to complain about the lack of content after not contributing anything, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about that aspect of the console, but people can leave a note in the report regarding this. There is no rule against it.

Oh, cool thanks.

Sucks they're still 30fps. :(

Regarding Valis: The Fantasm Soldier Collection (if this is what you mean by the 3 Valis games) lacks an IGDB aggregated review score, so it never gets pulled in. I have a filter for importing games so that we don't get weird NSFW shovelware on the website.

Games like this that are exceptions to that rule can be added upon request if people want to add a report for them and can't find them. I am adding it now and I am looking forward to your report on it! :D

That's nice of you to add that, but there were 3 collections in total for the Switch.

There is a very poor implementation of it with bad reviews on Steam that rolls up a mix of games into one collection by that name on there so it could be confusing.

Using one of those fandom sites
Collection 1 -Feb 2 2022
Collection 2 - Feb 23 2023
Collection 3 - Jan 18 2024

I think those are eshop dates, not LRG who got the exclusive physical rights.

Quick update from the SwitchDB rabbit hole. Some of it is in response to feedback here and some is stuff I noticed myself.

The Hypercharge moment
Someone asked why Hypercharge: Unboxed was nowhere on the site. Dug into the importer and the answer was embarrassing: I was filtering games on whether IGDB had a critic-aggregate score for them. Plenty of well-liked indies just don't have a Metacritic-style aggregate, so they were getting silently dropped at the import step. Switched the filter to user rating (community score) instead and ran a big backfill.

Numbers
  • +3,098 new games (1,947 -> 5,045 total)
  • Mostly indies and back-catalogue Switch titles that never had pro-review coverage

A few notable ones that had been missing
  • Hypercharge: Unboxed
  • Turbo Overkill
  • Cassette Beasts
  • Quake II (2023 remaster)
  • Caves of Qud
  • Slay the Princess: The Pristine Cut
  • Cat Quest III
  • Antonblast
  • Shovel Knight: King of Cards
  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon
  • Castlevania Advance Collection
  • The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition
  • Rhythm Doctor

Cross-gen mislabel cleanup
Donkey Kong Bananza was showing up as both Switch 1 and Switch 2 in the database, which is obviously wrong. Turned out IGDB lists every platform a game has ever been associated with, including "TBD" placeholders for ports that never happened. Wrote an audit that cross-checks each cross-gen entry against the actual release dates per platform. Result: 1,767 games that were wrongly tagged as having a separate Switch 2 release have been corrected. Future imports also use this stricter signal now, so it shouldn't drift again.

Switch 2 upgrade-pack types
Cross-checked every paid upgrade pack against the Nintendo store and found 7 that I had wrong. These are actually free upgrades, not paid:
  • Minishoot' Adventures
  • Sayonara Wild Hearts
  • Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
  • Disney Dreamlight Valley
  • Dispatch
  • One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4
  • Hades II

Quality of life stuff
  • Empty platform sections used to say "No reports yet for this platform." which is true but useless. They now ask "Did you try game on Switch 2? Tell us how it runs and help the community!" with a button straight to the report form.
  • Every game page also has a banner now nudging people to submit a report. The site only works if people contribute, so it's worth being a bit less shy about asking.
  • First-visit tooltip pointing at the visual-effects toggle (and the mobile menu), for anyone whose phone or browser struggles with the blur effects. Dismissible, remembers your choice.
  • Mobile menu got actual labels on the dark/light and effects toggles instead of just icons, and they sit one per row now so they're easier to tap.

The ask
The compatibility database is only as useful as the reports in it. If you have a Switch 2 and a backlog, please send a report or two for the games you've actually played. Takes about 30 seconds, still no signup. :switch:

Open to more feedback. If you find another game that's missing or mislabelled, hit reply and I'll dig in.
