Announced last week, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen have today launched digitally on the Switch and Switch 2. Featuring little in the way of enhancements or emulation filters, it was initially speculated these were one for one ports of the original titles. Mere hours after the games released however, a Japanese speedrunner was surprised to see both the Mystic and Aurora tickets in their bag after beating the Elite Four.

These previously event-exclusive items grant the player access to Birth Island and Navel Rock, home to legendary Pokemon Deoxys, and Ho-oh and Lugia respectively. With Pokemon Home support to follow, these Pokemon will be later transferrable to the modern entries.

I don't like the price, but I guess it is a nice way for people to enjoy the games legally. Like I have this one particular friend who does not sail the seas at all for anything, and I will remind him that buying 200+ dollar used copies does not support Pokémon or nintendo but this is a big win for him. For others i think the home integration is probably the draw or nostalgia. I didn't expect them to add the event items. It's a minor thing, but a positive one.

I won’t bother making a new thread for this, but I’ve also seen reports that the roar glitch that would make Entei and Raikou permanently unavailable has been fixed too. Another unexpected positive.

This does give me hope we’ll get Mew if we eventually see Emerald at least. And even if we lose Pokemon Bank fully, most legends are still very accessible via the Sword and Shield DLC. I think there a good chunk in the Scarlet and Violet DLC too.

A friend of mine bought one of the games and noticed that he could no longer call his rival "Schinke", which is what he called him in the original game.
The name itself is one letter away from "Schinken" meaning "ham" in German. Why is that not allowed? Your guess is as good as mine.

It can literally mean butt, but (pun intended) the more appropriate version.

A further update to add that you can apparently rebattle legendary Pokemon if you accidentally defeat them too. I imagine most people wouldn't even realise this was added since they just save before the battle, but it's a good feature that wasn't originally in the game.
