So apparently before translation work began they did a pass of the script with AI to see what they were working on, but its NOT actually what was in the final translation, from what i read.
So this IS the real deal. SegaGaGa finally fully playable in english.
The wait is over, its here, its real.

Rejoice brothers and sisters, we can actually play Segas silliest game ever made.

Whoa, this game goes for about $200 USD. I only know two things about it: (1) It's a Dreamcast curiosity that didn't make it to the West, and (2) It's been infamously translation-resistant. Twenty-five years later, it's playable for English speakers. If only I had the time.

I forget, does it play more like a JRPG?

yep, its a very goofy jRPG.

'16EB Storage 512TB RAM"

So this is the reason why Sega was financially struggling.

Jokes aside, I remember hearing about this years ago, will be interesting to see what it's actually like.
i wonder.... would 512tb of ram be worth more during the time of release of the game.. OR NOW 😐 😐 😐

Do you really think one would believe they revised the script for months when people have claimed the dialogue reads like shit from the very beginning?

It would probably be DDR1 ECC, unfortunately I can't find any launch prices.

But these days it seems to go for around £10/GB, so about £5,120,000.

One stick of DDR5 ECC works out as ~£15.75/GB, so about £8,064,000.

My feeling though is that the DDR1 RAM would have cost a hell of a lot more back then.

I recall my mum's laptop from around that time costing around £1000 and only coming with 128MB RAM, although that was usable until XP SP2 came along, only upgraded the RAM because SP1 was losing support.

so todays prices are STILL a great deal... comparitively at least ^^;;

Problem is you also need allot more of it for a half decent system.

My P3 rig has about 300MB RAM and is perfectly usable, but I can't even use gparted's current iso these days with with that as it needs 640MB, back in 2013 you only needed 128MB.

jokes aside, i have 32gb of ddr5 and with ai, well... im beginning to suspect i should have sprung for 32 more when it was just 80 euros.
but i dont want to be ungrateful, 32gb is more than some people have and it costs all the money in the world now.

If it makes you feel better, I rarely exceed 32GB on my 64GB systems unless I'm running VMs, etc.

For me it's whether to upgrade my GPU or not.

I have a 3090 which is 'good enough', but then with VRAM likely to drive prices up I have a temptation to get a 5080.

The only thing holding me back is the question of whether 16GB VRAM will be enough in the next few years and not having anywhere to put my 3090 as I like to hang on and repurpose old hardware.

i had a 3080, recently upgraded to a 9070 xt, powercolor red devil, i cant tell you how much i adore that card.
never had a more powerful or more quiet card in my entire life.
ive gotten used to how power hungry, inefficient and hot my 3080 was, but this is an entirely new ballpark.
im so glad i bought amd this time around, also gives me a lot more options by the time linux becomes the mainstream gamers choice (at least the mainstream among nerds ; 333 )

I have heard there are some potential issues with AMD cards on Linux if you use HDMI, although that's not AMD's fault but the HDMI standards not allowing FOSS drivers. Valve are currently experiencing this on the Steam Machine and HDMI 2.1 requiring them to make compromises.

Still I hadn't considered AMD but then I do use features like NVEC for video conversion/transcoding, which from what I've read are never as well supported/good on AMD.

nvidia drivers have been getting worse for a while now.
nvidia decided to use vibecoding for their drivers, thats why there have been so many issues.
feature-wise nvidia still definitely has some advantages, for a significant cost-premium, but the quality of their drivers, something which used to be near-perfect, has been going down.
with every driver release there is more vibe-coded code in there.

i dont think theyre gonna stop that now that theyve begun and that is just... not great.
ive been hearing the very nerdiest youtubers talk about it for a while now, now its hit the news.

AMD and reliance on FOSS software might have its drawbacks, but i have more trust in that than in anything NVIDIA has been doing for a while now, sadly. i used to like nvidia... but then again, nvidia used to be different.

I believe there are efforts to improve the open source Nvidia driver, so hopefully that becomes more viable and doesn't have AI slop over it.

Still, would be funny if Nvidia breaks their AI servers because of AI written code.

I don't particularly like Nvidia, but unfortunately I do use things like HDMI 2.1 (my TV supports 4K@120hz), NVEC, etc. So I'd be screwed either way.

It's a shame AMD doesn't have options like Nvidia, a FOSS option and then a closed source fork to add HDMI 2.1, etc. bearing in mind that would benefit Valve and the Steam Machine.

Edit:

Hold up, I think this conversation has drifted so far off topic that we're about to meet up with Voyager 1.

hehe, you might be right there.
i wouldnt count out the AMD FOSS drivers just yet tho.
I could easily see them add fully-functional HDMI 2.1 support.

anyway... i cant believe SegaGaGa is out and im taking time out of playing it to complain about the state of current hardware/software.
Nerdtalk ALWAYS has my full and undivided attention. I love talking shop.

I'll make this my last past post about gpus in this topic, but AFAIK the issue is the HDMI forum (the group behind HDMI) not letting them in FOSS drivers.

They could otherwise easily officialy add the feature.

Even unofficial methods could theoretically be DMCAd or cause other issues depending on implementation e.g. having to constantly patch the Kernel.

I heard Intel has a workaround, but I think that was done on a hardware level.

@tech3475 i asked my friend who knows more about these things and he said hdmi 2.1 WILL work on AMD cards without issue or downsides, with one simple trick. you need to use a displayport to hdmi adapter, thats it, now it works.

also... im playing the beginning of the game and the combat-system is so unusual and fun.
i had to negotiate with an employee after i battled him and now he is working for me or something, lol, i love it

Looking around, apparently how effective this is depends on the adapter, so if you ever go down this route make sure to check review.

That said, I think this was the trick Intel used on the card itself, surprised AMD doesn't implement this if it's that easy a workaround.
