Capcom shadowdrops both the original Dino Crisis 1 & 2 on Steam with a 50% launch discount

In a surprising turn of events, early this morning Capcom shadowdropped both of their original Dino Crisis titles on Steam.

For many years, fans of the classic Capcom survival horror games like the original Resident Evil trilogy and the original duology of Dino Crisis titles have been clamoring for a remaster, or even a re-release of their beloved classics, and last year both the original RE trilogy and Dino Crisis duology became available in GOG through their Preservation Program.

However, that still left the biggest digital store front for the PC market without those classics, but thankfully, part of those classics are now available on Steam, with Capcom's recent addition of both Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 to the Steam store front.

Get ready for the pre-historic survival horror classics as Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 rampage onto Steam in high resolution!
Snag these games at a special limited-time 50% discount.

The game takes place in the world of the Cretaceous Period... Dinosaurs attack players in various scenes, including jungles, caves, lakes, and some buildings eroded by plants! Use the characteristics of increased number of weapons to overcome difficult challenges!

The re-releases seem to be on par with GOG's release in terms of features, but with one important caveat...
Both Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 include the Enigma DRM for the Steam re-release.
As an important note about the DRM, the creator of the Classic Rebirth patches, Gemini, has specified that its patches for both titles can still be used if the player replaces Steam's exe files with those from the SourceNext releases and copying the Classic Rebirth DLL into the game's directory, bypassing the DRM imposed by Capcom for this release. Some other users also noted that removing the xinput.dll file might be needed in order to make Classic Rebirth work properly with controller as well.

If you are interested in purchasing both Dino Crisis titles despite the DRM, or if you want to convert them for Classic Rebirth usage, you can get them on Steam with an exclusive 50% launch discount right now, with the offer ending on February 26th.

lol was going to get 1 when i saw it but i checked gog.. 6.35 for both and drm-free ..

1) Buy a PS1 or early PS2.
2) Get Tonyhax International.
3) Buy a plextor PX-708A or other recommend cd burner in my ultimate ps 1 cd burning guide.
4) buy a 50 pack of cmc pro 80 minute cd-Rs
5) burn this game and every other ps1 game you want (that you legally can make backups of course…)

Literally half the nostalgia is the graphics. Idk why you wouldn’t play this on Og hardware. Funny thing is THIS is the first PS1 game in America to have anti-piracy mod-chip/soft-mod protection but since it is 2026 that’s been destroyed by modern soft-mods like Tonyhax international. I beat this game on Og launch Japanese 1994 PS1 hardware with it.

Or you know fill the pockets of some exec for a company who has zero people from when they made this game with, apparently steam DRM wasn’t enough. This game will be cursed as the worst example of DRM forever but whatever floats your boat. Great game

This game was also released on PC in 2000. It's not like it's being ported for the first time now.
I get the point you're trying to make, I guess... but in the case of DRM, just buying the GOG version or not buying the game sends the same message, too.

It was a 1999 PSX game tho, and always will be. That release is the original experience imo and you lose nothing with keyboard+mouse

The original PC port release (from 2000) plus a gamepad worked just as well, though. The only real problems with it were limitations of the hardware of its time. Audio quality not as good as it could have been, resolution limits, the game not really working correctly on Windows versions past XP. Things all fixed on the GOG release and mods to varying degrees.

I'm a big fan of Dino Crisis and have been for a long time. I have the PS version sitting on my shelf. I've been rooting for it to get an RE Engine remake for years now. You don't need to buy ($$$) or download the PS release to experience this game, and I think that's a good thing.
