This version will include graphical enhancements apparently "not possible" in the Switch version of the game. The game's performance has also been "significantly improved" and it now runs at a "stable 60fps in both handheld and docked".
There'll also be some new content in the Switch 2 Edition, including an exclusive arcade-style mode where you'll face off against waves of zombies using Juliet's Chainsaw Blaster and a turret. Joy-Con 2 mouse support will also offer a "fresh and distinct control experience".
That sounds A LOT better than the Switch 1 version, but why even bother to name it "Switch 2 Edition" at all? Are they really going to do this for all games? The top of the cover says it is already.
Suppose that little note is for the few customers who might buy it for NS1, but just looks ugly on it.

I believe Switch 2 Edition is an official title for games that use Nintendo's proper upgrade system (ie letting people upgrade from their Nintendo Switch version without having to jump through hoops). The games that have released on Switch 1 and 2 without that title either have an awkward upgrade (Hogwarts Legacy, Skyrim etc) or no upgrade path at all, with the Switch 2 version only being available via key card (Nobunaga's Ambition, Sonic X Shadow Generations etc).
I think I've probably said this before, but I'm fairly sure the games that don't use the Switch 2 Edition upgrade path are doing so because they want to use a Game Key Card for their Switch 2 release. Since you can't have Switch 2 Edition games on Key Cards, they'd be locked to a digital only upgrade.
Sadly the covers don't look very nice and the red cases hide away the cover art work they have, it's like seeing in red tint.
The fact it says at the top Nintendo Switch 2 means we know it's the Switch 2 Edition and yet they somehow have to specifically state it. I get that they need to do that for Key Cards and Codes in Boxes, though the full game carts shouldn't need it. Scarlet explained it above as well.
What a damn shame we can't have clean covers anymore.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Kirby and the Forgotten Land received additional contents and improvements, much like Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will. Can't say if those additional contents will be available for the Nintendo Switch, considering Nintendo Switch 2 Editions are backwards compatible with the Nintendo Switch (I have my doubts you get access to the content). May have to look at the back of the packaging for more information on the matter.
Likely because the design philosophy of the Nintendo Switch 2 "Editions" allows for more capabilities outside of standard enhancement practices. Right now, most of these editions don't really explore outside of that realm too much. The most we get is better visuals, higher frame rate, and additional (albeit relatively small compared to the rest of the game) content. I think when the editions start packing a lot more stuff, rather than just traditional enhancements, the naming scheme would make more sense.
I still personally think this whole design system is flawed though. I feel Nintendo did it right with the Game Boy Color / Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS / Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS / New Nintendo 3DS, etc., when it came to addressing system specific enhancements and features. You bought ONE version of the game, and it was fit for both platforms. Now it's just a messy scenario. Although I think part of the problem is, a lot of people don't read the fine print either, so they have to make things pronounced. Despite the fact you, me, and maybe your neighbor are smart enough to look before purchasing, most consumers are not that smart.

It's definitely a messy way to do things. There's just enough ambiguity that Switch owners might consider buying the Switch 2 edition for when they want to upgrade.
Plus, they definitely haven't made it clear to Switch 2 owners that these Editions are not actually Switch 2 games but just Switch games with added patches.

I really disagree with both of those statements. If anything they've gone too far with making it clear by plastering it all over the boxes and, like others have said, making the boxes worse for it lol.
Available for selected games, a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a bundle that includes the original Nintendo Switch game and its upgrade pack, which enhances the game to take advantage of the capabilities of Nintendo Switch 2.
Contents and enhancements of the upgrades differ depending on the game. They can include visual improvements, new features, or additional game modes.
Features and content of Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2.
If you already own the original Nintendo Switch game, as either a physical or digital version, you can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition by purchasing the game's upgrade pack via Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store or at retailers. After you upgrade, the original Nintendo Switch game can still be played on Nintendo Switch, though the features and content of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can download selected upgrade packs at no additional cost.
Beyond that explanation, they give a specific example with Super Mario Party Jamboree:
And then go onto list every first party Switch 2 Edition game along with the specific upgrades for playing them on Switch 2. Nintendo have issues, but they've been nothing but clear here surely.

Can you think of any other time where it was required to go to a website (or olden days equivalent) in the first place? No, because it was extremely obvious what you were buying and you could just take the box to the till. This mess shouldn't even exist and the fact they have to ruin the covers and add website links is proof of that in my opinion. Nintendo have only themselves to blame here and it seemed entirely avoidable with a bit more thought.
