Right is my 2025 motorola stylus, left is my motorola g 2014.

Phones used to be perfectly palm sized, due to needing to be easy to text and call on. now that its slowly morphed into the "all in 1" system, its now big enough to play games and watch things on...unless you got tiny hands! The amount of times I have dropped my phone have risen since about a decade ago, when i got my samsung J7. with my last phone (A52 5G), getting dropped so much i paid $150 USD to put the front screen back together!

every time I complain about this, some dude with big 'ol mittens tell me that they NEED to be so big, and that nothing will change. Which means I still have 3 things about modern phones to complain about (other 2 is lack of headphone jacks & sd card slots).

View attachment 552640 I can also compare my og moto g to a Samsung A767 Propel! again, palm sized for easy texting, headphone jack, sd card slot...
I can't believe that modern cellphones took away all of the features that you've mentioned, LMFAO. and I still don't get understand why other than money.

Pixel 4a was 5.8", Pixel 10 is 6.3". I don't get why they're getting bigger when they should be compact to take on the go.

Because of the reasons you already stated. They have become so powerful, and connectivity has improved so much, that they are suitable for watching videos and playing games. Many people WANT bigger screens for this, and it allows them to put bigger batteries in for longer life between charging. More powerful chip also means more heat, and more surface area helps keep it cool.

There are still tiny phones out there. YOU just chose not to buy one of them. So just ask yourself why.

I refer you to the Unihertz Jelly Star. Google it.

They're beginning to be as big as tablets are so for that reason I just use a Pixel 9a at home instead.

I tried the regular iPhone Pro but it's too small. I like the big one even if it is slightly awkward to hold.

Hey bestie, I've known about it for a WHILE! But unfortunately, 1, my phone service in the US doesn't have a plan for it. And 2, it's using older versions of android, which may affect how well some apps work...bc they like to stop support for old android versions randomly.

If anything, phones could still do all that if it's thicker instead of longer!

Your accusational tone sucks btw. so rude.

I wonder how much of it is actually out of necessity, i.e. they need room for components, bigger batteries to power it, etc. Whilst also trying to make them thin, have multiple cameras, etc?

I also wouldn't be surprised if larger displays are relatively cheap now thanks to Economies of Scale, kind of like how 32" TVs can be cheaper than 24" ones.

Compensation for something smaller?

I like bigger phones, my hands are big so i'm grateful for not pressing 4 keys that often (still do but tolerance is better)

My first phone was a Samsung Galaxy S in 2012, my god what an awful experience.

I like big screens, so also big phones.
Long ago (in 2007) I got my first smartphone a HTC Touch with a 2.8 inch screen.
Used a pen to type mosly for MSN (phone was Windows Mobile 6.1) .

Now i'm using a OnePlus 12, loved so far the big screen.

Depends on the size of the battery and screen.
Now there are foldable screens, but battery technology has been developing slowly.
.
Because most phones are made in China, Chinese mobile apps interfaces are packed with content and often very cluttered, so people need a large screen to see the content clearly.
