That most people these days are either selfish or absolute fucking idiots. That the pandemic lockdown left people not knowing how to act and thinking that they're above everyone else. Look, I get being left behind, I get being used, I'm suffering the consequences of it right now with two busted knees. But still I find the time to be nice to people and use manners and common courtesy. No more evident of this shit that I'm referring to if you either deal with customers/customer service agents or if you're driving on the road. Everyone wanting THEIR way even when it inconveniences other people. People trying to speed down the street, cut people off, and beep the horn like a toddler on Adderall just because I let a tractor trailer go instead of trying to cut IT off. Like I'm really going to risk my fucking life just because YOU need to get somewhere. You should learn to plan ahead and leave early for traffic like a normal human being.....but society doesn't KNOW how to be normal anymore does it? I'm sure Orange Julius Caesar had a big part in it, but he's not the only reason. It had to have been in there all along. All things have done in the past ten years has shown what kind of person one really is. The masks aren't fitting anymore. Sorry for seemingly ramble on about this but I'm just tired of it all, you know?

Not everything needs to be digital, or IoT to be better, I mean the best watches in the world are analogue. It's a time old (pun intented) process of craftsmanship, get yourself a nice watch like a Tudor/Tag or something, and enjoy walking around with that piece of kit.
While i can appreciate the craftsmanship of a good watch, I don't value craftsmanship to the tune of what they are asking. More importantly I simply don't enjoy using analogue watches.

It always takes longer to 'decipher' the time on analogue clock hands (you can argue it doesn't if you like, and I will disagree). It's a small thing, sure, but it's a big thing to me. At best, I would have thought analogue clock faces would be a small minority of the watch market by now (say 15%, at best). But it seems that watch shops mostly sell watches with big hands and small hands. Always felt this was odd.

Weird way of saying you can tell the time, but whatever.
This is the unpopular opinions thread, after all.

Yes, I have an unpopular opinion. I have spent most of my life trying to understand why it's unpopular though...

So just to counter your argument;

Analogue watches dominate the traditional timepiece market, holding over 90% of the revenue share in 2024, despite the rise of smartwatches. While the broader watch market is projected to reach over $80 billion by 2030, analogue, particularly luxury and quartz, continues to thrive, driven by a resurgence in popularity among younger consumers and high demand in the Asia-Pacific region.
Key Analogue Watch Market Metrics (2024-2025):
  • Market Share: Analogue watches accounted for approximately 91.69% to 93.46% of the total watch market revenue in 2024.
  • Key Growth Drivers: The market is driven by a surge in demand for luxury, fashion, and, increasingly, nostalgic appeal among younger generations (Gen Z).
  • Dominant Regions: The Asia-Pacific region holds the largest market share (approx. 49%–52%), with strong growth in North America.
  • Price Segments: Entry-level quartz (under $150) dominates by volume (58% of shipments), while luxury mechanical watches remain the highest in value.
  • Top Brands: Rolex ($11.43B), Cartier ($3.51B), and Omega ($2.94B) are the top players by 2025 sales figures.
Trends and Distribution:
  • Offline Sales: Physical retail, including authorized dealer networks, holds the highest market share (roughly 69%) compared to online channels.
  • Consumer Demographic: Men hold the largest share of the market, at roughly 73%–76%.
  • Outlook: The market is shifting toward "quiet luxury" and customization, with a steady CAGR of around 2.1%–5.3% expected through 2030

Im not even sure how you can suggest looking at an analogue clock takes longer than a digital one, appreciate you're suggesting an unpopular opinion, but this is just fringe at best. You also say that you can appreciate the craftsmanship, then immediately contradict yourself, by suggesting it's not worth what they're asking. In raw materials etc, then i'd likely agree, or even the extreme watch market, but they're luxury items, would you say the same about a plane/house/car?

I love an unpopular opinion, they're interesting, but this is just wild!

I don't have an argument, but you seem to be very argumentative. Why? I don't know.

If anything, you have proven my point. I said I would have thought the analogue watch market (ie. non digital display watches) would have - at best - 15% watch market share. At best. Given I prefer digital so much, and it is easier to tell the time with digital. Instead analogue (interpret-the-pointing-sticks) watches are the majority of the market, which I also stated.
Im not even sure how you can suggest looking at an analogue clock takes longer than a digital one,
Looking at one doesn't take longer. Deciphering the time after looking at one does. It might be a small difference to you, but I don't think anyone can argue it takes longer for the brain to decipher the exact time on a 'hands' watch than a digital display with hours, minutes and seconds displayed numerically. The info goes in far easier with numbers. Not 'symbols' pointing at numbers and dots or lines on a circular face.
appreciate you're suggesting an unpopular opinion, but this is just fringe at best.
You are free to interpret my opinions as fringe. I have far more extreme views about Santa Claus, piercing ears for earrings, and far, far more.
You also say that you can appreciate the craftsmanship, then immediately contradict yourself, by suggesting it's not worth what they're asking.
Not a contradiction at all. I can appreciate it but still think that fine craftsmanship doesn't add much value to me, on a practical level, with so many other things I could buy with the cash that would enhance my life far more.

You could stop for a second and ask yourself why you are getting so argumentative. This is an unpopular opinion topic & you are free to disagree with it. I am not here to convince anyone or force anyone to agree with me.

Let it be wild. Hope you have enjoyed yourself singling me out for no particular reason. I have far more radical views on countless topics that may blow your mind.

Never thought I'd see an argument over a watch go this hard, but damn. Color me surprised.

LOL.

And I never thought I'd find someone so argumentative about my own opinion (essentially calling me 'fringe' and 'this is just wild') as if this is something way out there...and all this on a thread designed for the airing of unpopular opinions, no less.

So add me to the surprise list.

There seems to be a strong desire for some people to think people should think like they do, even in a thread designed for unpopular opinions. If not, then some people feel they can essentially make fun of them. This might be a reflection of their own insecurity, but I prefer not to go there.

My thoughts on watches are super-mild, I think, compared to so many other areas I could have spoken about.

Dude, im not being argumentative, i've put up stats to show your information was inaccurate. 91% of watches sold are analogue, you said less than 15%. So you were wildly inaccurate.

You call me argumentative, then post a long ass post about why Im argumentative, yet continue to argue yourself :)

Opinions are like buttholes, we've all got one.

You could do with some reading comprehension classes. What I said was exactly this:
At best, I would have thought analogue clock faces would be a small minority of the watch market by now (say 15%, at best). But it seems that watch shops mostly sell watches with big hands and small hands. Always felt this was odd.

In other words, I am totally surprised so many analogue watches are sold in this day & age. Get it?

After exhibiting your poor reading comprehension, resulting in erroneous 'conclusions' to build yourself up at the expense of someone who knows how to read & express themselves, I will gladly call you out.

How original. Incidentally, this is a topic about them.

If you feel the need to make personal attacks, then you've already lost any discussion.

What’s my first world problem of the day?

Ah, Craigslist is miles better as a sellers platform for local sales than Facebook marketplace.

One more.. The rise of AI is proportionate to the average IQ dropping. Had a coworker get into a full blown argument with Gemini.

Can't admit that you need reading comprehension lessons. Can't admit that you like to make fun of people sharing their personal opinions on mundane topics, turning a normal post into a 'battle' to make yourself look better to mask your insecurities.

Goddamn, STILL about the watch thing? Should I just….go grab a snack or something or should I prep a full meal? 🤣
I'm expecting a full meal, or you can just ignore the thread if it bothers you so much. How about that?

He creates arguments where there are none. He proves himself to be someone who cannot read with understanding. He has been proven to not understand what I wrote. He then complains about 'personal attacks' when they are just facts. In other words he can dish it out but can't take it.

Insecure people are always high-maintenance.
