[NUSspli/WiiUDownloader] I cannot update Splatoon for the life of me. Need help. | "An update is required to start this software."

I've had this issue for a week and a half and I just can't get my mind off of it. I've tried almost every method suggested to me but I always end up with no success and I just wonder what exactly do I have to do to get Splatoon to work. I can't update it the traditional way apparently (Switch back to NNID) because my system is region swapped. And even if I "installed" the updates it still shows the message ("An update is required to start this software.") Other games work, just not Splatoon for some reason.

I have:
- Downloading via NUSpli
- Downloading via WiiUDownloader
- Tried different regions (EUR+JPN no success, game stuck on splash screen)
- Used multiple different networks
- with SD
- without SD

Exactly what can I, or should, do?

I was having a similar issue as well, in my case at least, seemed to be that the updates and the version game I was installing (I was getting everything from an alternative source that wasn't WiiUDownloader or NUSpli) weren't the latest ones. What worked was just deleting the game, all updates and doing a fresh download and install of both game and update from NUSpli alone.
I've also seen people online saying it COULD have to do with Pretendo, but I'm not too sure about that, others here probably have better knowledge to talk about that.

Here's the kicker—that doesn't work either. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times (WiiUDL/NUSspli), only to still get the same result. Strange—very strange.

I'm asking because it could be something else entirely, some plugins may cause that problem, for example, Pokkén gets stuck on a splash screen as well if you leave re_nsyshid on, for example

I don't believe I have that on my system, no. But that could lead me to something, so now I'm wondering what the seller put on to this system...
(Forgot to mention that the system was pre-modded, apologies.)

If the firmware is Aroma, you can press L1, D-Pad Down and Minus to open a plugin menu, that'll show all the plugins your firmware has installed.
I dont think it's re_nsyshid in specific because I do have that on and just checked, Splatoon opened fine, past the splash screen and everything.

Here's my list of plugins, I wonder which one could cause the issue...?

regionfree plugin has a setting that can appoint different region to a specific game, try change it. it defaulted to your console's region.
And delete current one and use nusspli/wiuudownloader to get the game+updated file.

I'd also like to ask, which regional version of Splatoon should I download? And which region should I use for it?

I am just providing u with some ideas I know of, in fact, I played Splatoon US version on both US and EU consoles (and both of which are region-changed from JP consoles) with no issue, did not change the region free plugin config at all.....

Would like to apologize for the late reply but somehow I did in fact get Splatoon running.

I:
> deleted Splatoon again
> used Ticket Cleaner
> downloaded EUR Splatoon

I still have no idea if this is what caused it but a win is a win.
