Yeah, but you have to turn off the gamepad before launching RetroArch or loading a core/content. On Aroma it's easy with the padcon plugin.
On the flip side, if the gamepad is on, it'll grab player 1 by default and set the Pro Controller to player 2. You can totally reassign the Pro as player 1 in the controller settings, but you'll also need to set up a hotkey combo to open the menu as the Home button on the Pro is completely useless when the gamepad's powered on. Check the hotkey settings for that.
I wish any controller with a Home button just worked regardless of input order, but yeah... that's how it is.

Wish they could port flycast emulator to the WiiU. That emulator works very fast, even on my slowest phone, even on my slow TV Box.
Somehow I think Dreamcast hardware was simple and straightforward (little processors running in parallel), that's why emulators run very smooth.
The original devs were stopping support for a feature that only the old PowerPC builds were using to get some extra performance, that included the Wii U port, wich was essentially killed without it.
The Aroma Port that has been in limbo for the last year due to the issue with slow Core loading/Rom loading has been fixed thanks to a new Aroma CFW update
This means Retroarch on Aroma is now back on the table! I tried a bunch of the Core's I compiled last year and they seem to run fine and Core swap as they're supposed to. heh
Downside is Core's that require Jit such as PS1 and Picodrive will have to be reworked to work properly with Aroma but the rest should work fine (SEE EDIT BELOW)
Vid of Aroma RA in action...
Here's a full Retroarch package with Cores and a Retroarch wuhb file so you can have a Retroarch icon to launch from the Home Menu!
Don't mix Tiramisu Retroarch Cores with Aroma ones and don't attempt to update your Cores through Retroarch... Your asking for trouble if you do
Best to rename your current Retroarch folder if you have one, the link I've posted has the Retroarch folder all setup so its just a straight extract to SD root, insert sd, load Aroma then load the Retroarch icon (white instead of black)
Try it and post any issues you have and remember this is a test build
EDIT: Thanks to the work of @Vague Rant we now have working Pcsxreamed and Picodrive Aroma Cores!!! (included in the link)
EDIT2: If your getting audio issues with the PS1 Core do this:
Go into the RA Settings and change the Audio Driver to Axpro
Change the audio Sample Rate to 44100
Load a PS1 game and save a Core Override (in the In-Game Menu) this will save you having to keep changing the Audio Driver/Sample Rate everytime
Audio issues should be fixed!
EDIT 3: A new and improved build is available that adds....
More cores have been added, we should be pretty close if not the same as Tiramisu in terms of core compatibility. Thanks to Vague Rant, Maschell, QuarkTheAwesome
PS1 Core should have another perf bump too, with extra threading additions to the ingame options menu. Thanks to vrda
We now have the ability to open the WiiU Menu and close Retroarch with the Home button. Just like an official app Thanks to Maschell
Added ability to use Threaded Video.. Option added to Video/Output Setting. Thanks to vrda
RA's Assets (which was the cause of the slow loading) is now built into the Retroarch wuhb, so it doesn't have to read it each time you switch Core/load rom, that helps loading speeds massively!
Yes my friend. Working fine, US version, just slow because the game loads pre-rendered backgrounds.
Edit: Issue also happens on Windows (Retroarch + Pcsx Rearmed) so I should simply disable the "Turbo CD" feature. Thank you!
P.S: That feature (Turbo CD) is really an excellent feature to re-discover PS1 library. Game load at least x2 faster, although it breaks some rare games.
Hey guys got a new Core for you to play with, thanks to the dev KMFDManic we now have an Atari Jaguar Core!
Its not perfect and to have any chance of playable speeds in game we have to sacrifice sound :/ but at least we now have Atari Jaguar in some form on WiiU
Thanks to Quarky for helping me get the Core to compile on Aroma lol
There are a few new Core Option to mess with on this Core:
1.Xtreme time Slice Divisor
2. Xtreme Frameskip
3. Xtreme TurboBoost
Try messing with those to increase perf. (TurboBoost gives the most notable perf boosts in my tests but you lose sound.)
(Note from KMFDManic: to boost xtreme divisor youre best off testing on your specific platform with both audio and video synchronization disabled in retroarch settings, audio/video)
