My OLED switch has been working great for the last few years but I ran into a big problem today. I installed a few different pieces of homebrew (switchfin, moonlight, and sys-con) and then attempted to reboot my console. When rebooting I was hit by with an atmosphere error the first time and every time I've tried booting into my emuMMC since the console acts like I'm starting it up for the first time. I get a red background with white Nintendo and joycon logos and then it asks me to choose a language. At this step I always power off because I'm worried I'll overwrite something.

After this happened I put the latest HATS pack on my SD card hoping that would fix it but no luck. I'm on a slightly older firmware (updated maybe 6 months ago, possibly later).

Will I have to create a new emuMMC or is there a way to recover my existing one? I never made a backup of it.

Three years ago I had my switch setup as a file based emuMMC but I believe I ran into a similar problem. I was able to recover many but not all of the saves (I think it was with Tegra Explorer and NX Mananger). I don't remember the process and I'm not sure if there's something better to try out instead. After that incident a few years ago I switched to a partition based emuMMC because I heard it was less likely to get corrupted.

Is there any hope of either restoring my switch to the state it was in before I tried rebooting today? If not, what's the best way to try to recover the user profiles and saves? And could the homebrew have caused this or is just a coincidence? I definitely want to avoid this happening again if possible

There is a much easier way to recover your saves from sysnand or emunand if yor emummc is corrupted as an example.

Download the script dump_saves.te for tegraexplorer and place in a folder like this:
sd:/TegraExplorer/scripts

Launch hekate then the tegraexplorer payload, choose the dump_saves script.
Choose if you want to dump emmc or emummc.
I dumped both emummc system and user.

On your sd card you will now have 2 new folders emummc system and user.
Save them to a computer.
Depending on your problem from the start, redo the emummc on the switch if it was corrupted as a example.

Download dbi. Place it in sd:/switch/DBI folder. Create a folder inside the DBI folder named saves.

Copy all your saves files that you saved before to that folder.
Start the switch and dbi.
In dbi choose Browes saves.
In the backup tab you will see all your saves.
If you installed games you will see the name of the game on the saves.
If not then you will only see the title number of the game.

Choose the save you want to install/recover. Done!

You could even install the saves on another switch this way.

Nice, thanks. Where do we find the dump_saves.te script?

I have the same issue. Any updates? Where all your installed games gone?
