Where is the English version of DBI?

Do installers still keep the previous updates installed? Tinfoil (original) did this, but surely other tools have fixed this by now.

Okay. I can stop using DBI then, even Russian version that I have always used. That feature was the only reason I kept it around.
I think he was talking about the data that DBI removes, not what checkpoint removes.

That's funny, because that was my original thought but I second guessed myself. In which case I guess I don't stop using DBI.

@duckbill007 So you are just gonna ignore my question?

I can say only this: my GitHub account was deleted in 2022 for unknown reason. Of course it was worded as some rules violations. But no details.
That's not exactly an answer to your "console is tagged and will get glitches" statement (if it indeed is yours).
Can you please clear that up? Thanks. ;)
I'm fine if I had to deal with such glitches but not my "innocent" sister I'm planning to hand my V1 to.

that diva will never give us a direct answer

Well you actually wrote that on certain russian forum, didnt you? In russian, sure, but you did (now I am not taking into account that the issue the user was having was just dbi bug caused by having MSG_WAITALL enabled, so you were obviously making fun of him).

I thought you can at least stand behind your words, though.

edit: @mathew77: Oh, I certainly mean no harm! I was under impression we were just having friendly discussion.

But (technically) these words weren't exactly written by him. All that stuff and/or lost in translation, you know..

Please stop bullying the dev one of the greatest Switch homebrew ever, beg you all guys!..

You just keep repeating yesterday's news. Did you have any issues with dbi?

There are alternatives, and that is great. I even have patreon subscription for sphaira, I believe.

Everything you are so worried about is clearly documented in both rashevsky's git repo and dbipatcher one.

You are probably old enough to order a drink, so you should be able to read and make informed decision about whether you want to use it or not. As other people are.

It seems to me that you are just trying to start yet another round of drama.
Oh, I see where the confusion comes from. Rashevsky, who maintains the github repo, is NOT duckbill. So, there obviously don't have source code to publish.

He apparently asked duckbill whether he can publish it and that's where all the tagged console stuff comes from.

By documented, I mean those messages from duckbill reprinted in close proximity of translation download link. For everyone to see and make informed decision based on that.

There is really no need for you to take this whole public protector stance of yours.

For example I, will keep using DBI for as long as possible, because I really dislike sphaira ui. There may be other people who feel the same. Or need some obscure dbi feature which sphaira does not support.

Those people will read the disclaimers on git, and decide whether it's worth it for them.

edit: this discussion is also mostly academic. There are thousands of people using the translated version and apparently aside from one guy are experiencing no issues with it. We could say that it has been empirically proven than duckbill was just trolling. :) (obligatory smiley face)
Sorry, I had to take a break due to the health issues. There is no confusion. Please, stop releasing English version of this malware. You can see in this topic what kind of person this developer is and digdat0 linked the topic where you can read (source of the translation) what's going on after you'll use modified version. As I said many times before, he and his malware should be banned from here,

Here's a translated conversation:

"Acervoti
Hello, a problem has come up: games have stopped installing via FTP (there are no other installation options).
The installation doesn’t complete and that’s it.
I tried installing other games the same way, from other phones as well — the same thing happens.

duckbill
Congratulations, you fell for the English version of DBI. Now your console has a flag that can only be removed by rolling back a backup. Get ready for a wide variety of glitches.

Acervoti
I solved the problem by installing / rolling back from DBI 810 to DBI 658 via Uberhand.
FTP installation works normally now.

duckbill
Well, 658 is the legitimate version. But the flag in the system still remained.

Necron04
Could you tell me what kind of flag it is?

duckbill
A marker indicating that a pirated DBI was run on the console. For what happens next, see Game Dev Tycoon.

From Wikipedia:

The game's developers implemented an anti-piracy measure for Game Dev Tycoon. Patrick Klug, founder of Greenheart Games, knowing that the game was likely to be torrented extensively, purposely released a cracked version of the game and uploaded it himself to torrent sites. Gameplay in this version is identical except for one variation, that being that as players progress through the game they receive the following message:

Boss, it seems that while many players play our new game, they steal it by downloading a cracked version rather than buying it legally. If players don't buy the games they like, we will sooner or later go bankrupt.— Greenheart Games, Game Dev Tycoon

Eventually players of the cracked version will gradually lose money until they do go bankrupt, as a result of pirates. Some players complained on message forums about this piracy feature, unaware that it only appeared because they themselves pirated the game."

So, stop using this malware, stop translating it (Morce3232) and stop defending him (mathew77). Also, you see how he's avoiding clear replies to your questions. I don't know what else is needed for you people to use alternatives.

There is only so much you can patch on 19.0.1 though , once it use new sdk people are going to be forced to update if they want to play new games. To be honest ain't that bad to be on 20.x.x.
I know, but that's already enough for me. I have everything that I wanted to play already on my console.

Lol, no :D There is no protection and I might do another translation round if I get bored enough.

I believe no one expects duckbill to give clear answer at this point, it is mostly just innocent poking, at least from my side.

You do realize, that if he had any malicious intentions, he could have already obliterated not only your switch (which would probably be fixable by restoring backup / rebuilding nand), but also your home network infrastructure and who knows what else?

You are essentially giving root access to network connected device to random people, every time you run random nro you obtained somewhere.

Yet you are still concerned by having your switch marked by this mysterious tag. :D

edit: @BigOnYa: Yea, that is kinda the point. I believe that throughout all the dbi topics, there wasnt single person forcing anyone to use it. I even believe that all shared download links also advised users to form their own opinion whether they want to use it.

My final opinion, if you want to risk it, to use software from a dev who has threatened to have a kill switch in his software in past posts, then post these threats on github, and refuse to answer honestly when asked about it, then that is on you.
I personally will not touch it, or ever have because of this. There are other install apps that work just as well, other than MTP, which is not a big deal for me to just use USB if that means not worrying if one day my Switch will be nuked over a dev's hate for anybody that is not Russian. Thanks for reading. Have a nice day.

I don't use it and I'm really not interested in anything that he releases. I'm a reasonable guy. I don't even want to talk about him, but I had to. I'll ask you again then. As you don't have a source code, how do you know that (according to you) it doesn't do anything malicious?

Please don't compare something like Spahira to DBI for example and don't offend ITotalJustice who had nothing but good intentions with what he was doing for the scene. Unlike duckbill. Network? You can say that with any other software, not only on Switch. Here, there is a big difference becase of what he wrote. That's a clear threat and if you don't understand this, then I don't know what to tell you.

If you look at the translation and read what Acervoti wrote, you already know what's going. What else is there hidden? If you decide to continue releasing English version of this malware, you'll be harming people instead of helping them. Because that was your initial intention, right?

No, I dont have source code. It has however been empirically proven to be safe. I believe I even altered the dialogue with duckbill from rashevksy's git in a way that should have provoked some kind of reaction. Was also considering consulting an oracle.

Acervoti had issue with having MSG_WAITALL enabled in dbi settings, which was (at least at the time) apparently broken (notice how that option is absent in 658, thus rendering it working again magically).

edit: @NotUsingAnAltAccount: I would also like to stress out, that the translations were done mainly for my own convenience. If providing them to other people makes me amoral, so be it I guess. :D

Nothing was proven. If you know better without looking into the source code, then you really must have consulted an oracle then. I'm done with this topic as well. It's not even about knowledge at this point, if someone has at least a common sense, he will avoid this and anything that this person releases. You, on the other hand if you have some morals you'd stop supporting him, his malware and his words by doing what you're doing. Instead, helping someone or some other project that needs your help if you're knowledgeable.

Y'all should just put duckbill on ignore, never mention him here again and just act as if he didn't exist. He's a mentally ill Russian. He posts one thing and then claims the opposite. That's everything you need to know.
Exatly this, he doesn't seem like a mentally healthy person. I already blocked him long time ago.

This is my last message about him, his doings and warnings about DBI specifically.
