While I don't speak Russian, I don't see any reason NOT to use the ru version, especially since I used the english one when you officially supported it so I know the menu entries I need and what to press.

However what really concerns me is this quote on GitHub (apparently by you):

I'm currently setting up my old V1 for a family member and yeah... I admit it... I wanted to save time so I went with a community CFW pack that had two DBI versions in the hbmenu. And since the hbmenu doesn't show the version of the hovered NRO, I just opened the english one. I dunno whether it was modded or is your last english one but I quit the moment I realized and went for the other, which is Russion and is currently installing multiple NZS files at ones while I write.

Am I "screwed" (aka "tagged") for opening the "false" DBI? I didn't even bother to install anything with it.

Yeah I used it for several years but it's not worth it if you're on 20.5 and you want to install Metroid Prime 4 just use AwooInstaller + NX-USBLoader they worked perfectly. While there may be some ports this will most likely be the last game on the Switch that really matters unless you only have a Switch for gaming period. I game on PC and this will probably be the last exclusive that matters on the Switch 1. Recommended to do like me get Metroid Prime 4 installed (if you want it of course) and whatever other games that are older and be done with the Switch 1.

Yeah. I just use Goldleaf + Quark on Linux. Works fine. I would use Awoo but I really don't like how NX-USBLoader looks and works. (Plus I really don't like the theming of Awoo. Lul.) Pretty much everything is available in NSP format anyway so it doesn't even really matter that Goldleaf only supports that file type.

I'm thankful for DBI that enabled me to update the cheat by dumped small file, so it wasn't good option with alternative. It didn't help when some games come with different BID/TID based on regions.

As for duckbill, you shouldn't use geopolitical as tool in app development like Russian only version and use tactics with threats that left a lot of users suspicious of you. It destroy your credibility.

The geopolitical shouldn't be factored in app development.

It's not really about the geopolitical situation. It's about the implicit threat that something bad is going to happen if you use the English translation. I won't even touch the ru version either over this.

I referred to developer's threat in English translated of DBI and some people trashed the Russians over situation with Ukraine, so it is more of government related, not ordinary people in video game.

The threat wouldn't occur if it wasn't for flare up related to geopolitical.

That may very well be true. And it sucks because the dev has no control over the situation. But realistically most people would continue to use DBI anyway considering it's a very high quality and feature rich tool. I think it's still the only installer that supports direct installs over MTP without needing to run any special software on the host PC. But if the devs going to put IMO literal malware in the software that triggers if the binary is modified then I can't recommend you use it. According to the dev himself it writes to your actual sysMMC/emuMMC and the only way to remove whatever it does is to restore from a backup (or make a new emuMMC if it only wrote to that). That's gonna be a nope from me. No sympathy at that point. You're just bringing it on yourself now.

When the dev keeps "joking" that he's going to brick your Switch and has DRM in his software that causes glitches so you have to use it in Russian just believe him. And he will not answer if it's real or not. It's not worth the risk. There are other tools that do the same exact shit. Both Goldleaf and Awoo work fine. DBI is nice but it's not that much better. Lol.

I can't stop you from using it. If you want to risk it go for it. But it doesn't matter if you install something. The DRM is present even if you just open it.

I just revised my post to settle on debate and you would understand if you encounter the scenario with cheat that require a tool to update the cheat to work with other region. I never used DBI until I encountered this scenario, so that is unfortunate. I don't understand about why game developers used different TID/BID for NA, EU, JP and Asian.

I wouldn't use DBI if I went with NSP installation routine, tho.
