Quoting Donald Trump, as he spelled it out that no. It's not about drugs.
"We're in the oil business..."

"We’re going to have our very large United States oil companies, the biggest anywhere in the world, go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure, and start making money for the country." --Donald Trump

All you talking about how this is because of drugs, or narco terrorism. (Which Trump pardoned a major drug trafficker)
You got played for manufactured consent. That's what this is.
All the people defending Trump's actions here know all this. They will look at the illegal thing that was done, and cling to the one good thing that came out of it and raise it up to be the prime issue for them.

Trump talking constantly about oil being the reason will be ignored.
Trump lying about the fentanyl coming from Venezuela will be ignored.
Trump illegally bombing boats will be ignored.
Trump illegally killing civilians during the strike to get Maduro will be ignored.
Trump threatening to invade other resource rich countries will be ignored.

Their cow blinders are on, and they will willfully allow immorality and illegality for the sake of tribalism. We've seen it for every other illegal/unconstitutional thing that Trump has done so far, so why would this be any different. Trump could invade Greenland or Canada, and they would capitulate like spineless little bitches.

Let rewind back to forums in 2003-2004 when baby boomer, Gen X and millennial members debated over Iraq. Today, it is Venezuelea, also there is new generation group - Gen Z that where babies to children in 2000s.

Time flies fast.

Normally I don't talk politics or recent events with coworkers. They are tired and they are stressed, and at the end of the day we just want to do our jobs and go home.

That's understandable, however on the occasion I will sometimes mention recent events as gently and calmly as I can.

I mostly focused on, just, my overall shock. Like we cannot be invading other countries without approval from Congress. What we did violated national law.

And she turns around, telling me about how the United States has been fucked over by other countries. Tells me that we had to bomb them because they were going to put drugs in our country.

I was horrifyingly bewildered that this is what some people really think.

We were the place other countries invested into, because of our economy being stable. We were not getting fucked over.

I tried telling her we could of just tracked down the supposed drug boat, after all we already had drone footage of it. You knew where they must of been going. You could of contacted a nearby country, ask for permission to stop the "drug boat" at their harbor. bombing was not the most reasonable choice here. Nor invasion

She then told me that other countries don't care. My head just. I could not fathom the utter stupidity, lack of any empathy or reasoning behind that statement.

I made a response back about regarding invasion. And she said somebody had to do it to "get them to stop"

we didn't talk much further. She tried asking what my news sources was as if it was a gotcha. I told her various.
She then later on said that she doesn't really want to talk politics because she hasn't been in the loop for the last 5 days.

When all I can think is clearly she is in some branch of the right wing grifting sphere. Because I later informed her that Trump did pardon a drug trafficker. She was completely clueless.

Other countries DO care about actual real dangerous substances. If it's an actual real problem, they care a lot since that's a problem for their own citizens. It's not like profits and drugs are going to just be-line straight to the United States and only them.

This, right now

Most people: Doesn't this break International law and set a dangerous precedent?
MAGA: Y R these leftist scum suppoting Maduro

Trying to present this as some sort of justice against dictatorship is bollocks considering the yank government have supported appalling dictarorships in Chile, Iran and Pakistan. If Maduro was right win and happy to sell out the oil, he'd be Trump's best friend. Don't try and present this as anything other than that.

I love the mindset of people like you. It's literally, "Well, one wrong gets canceled out because another wrong happened first!" The fact that people like you can't understand the concept that 2 things can be true at once says a lot about how your mind works. Which is to say, you shouldn't be taken seriously because clearly you haven't learned to think deeply about anything.
Simple reality, more things can be true at once. Just because you point out one wrong, doesn't negate the current wrong. Use your brain, I remember the days when you used to think critically things, so I know it functions from time to time.

Last edited by The Catboy,
he's talking about illegal migrants.
Figures the right would would use rhetoric to try and suggest immigrants are "invading", but it's all a political narrative with no legal or factual support in it. It's basically "let's make it sound far worse than what it really is".

The US is built on the backs of immigrants, the enslaved, and Native Americans who were in the land first.

Just in case the reasoning wasn't blatant enough:

I'm trying to steel-man this in my head to attempt to be honest and not be a hypocrite.

If some other country went into Russia and kidnaped Putin, I would be happy. In fact, I'd be ecstatic. Same thing with Trump. If some country sent in an assassin squad and took out Trump, I'd be happy. The world would have a chance at some semblance of normalcy with him gone.

Before you scream "YOU'RE A HYPOCRITE!!!", if he did that with Maduro without blowing the shit out of the country and destroying boats, I'd be more on his side. Removing despots and dictators is a good thing. I think most people here would be in favor of it.

But that isn't what's happening here. Trump is going in with the prime objective to steal oil and resources. THAT'S what is blatantly wrong here. Going back to the previous hypothetical of Putin. If a country kidnaped Putin for the purpose of taking over the country and stealing their oil, that should be condemned. The people who are blindly defending what was done do so knowing the prime reason and choose to ignore it. That is where they're objectively immoral.

I think up until now, the President is given a bunch of options in response to their question of what should they do. And there's always a crazy extreme option offered by someone, some amped up General or some senior advisor, of what America should do in response to situations. And up until now the President never went for the crazy option. But now Trump, if offered something crazy, he goes for it. That he could do this without Congress or any other country knowing about it is insane. Law and convention mean absolutely nothing anymore.

Big question would be security guarantee from Chavez/Maduro backed government? Oil infrastructure could get attacked by rebel groups. If civil war breaks out, so it will be delayed infinitely until country become stable.

Replace the oil infrastructure is very expensive with $58 billions, so oil price would need to be very high to have a comfortable investment return and oil companies rather to have short term investments that could catch quickly.

Oil shale in US wasn't cheap and they need very high oil price like $80-100 per barrel to make a happen, so it went unstable after Saudi Arabia deliberately increased the oil production to overwhelm the market with cheap oil, also Iran didn't like about what Saudi did.
